I'm running tiger and I need to open up a specific port for transmission to download torrents. I can't find any options to open the ports. My only other option is to run without a firewall, unless there are 3rd party firewalls available for tiger.

Does anyone know a work around for this?

Well, opening ports up on Tiger for running torrents is (I think) only through the router firewall, and I've still got the Mac firewall running.

You need to know your router IP and change the settings through there. Each router is different. Try www.portforward.com tells you how to set up on most routers.

In transmission the port is always hidden unless the mac firewall is turned off so I know it is the mac firewall at this point and not the router.

In "Sharing" and "Firewall" part of System Preferences, there is an 'New' button where you can add the TCP and UDP port numbers you want to allow.

I've never used Transmission so I'm not sure if it'll work, but it's worth a try if you haven't already done so.

Are you sure about that? This is in OS X Tiger, System Preferences --> Sharing --> Firewall:

Click the New... button and select Other as the Port Name. You can open multiple ports by entering something like 6060-6099 to open the entire range or use commas like 6060, 6065 to open these two ports or a combination thereof like 6060, 6065-6099.
