Basically, my internet connection is so-so, and I'd like to leave my MBP on overnight to download a bunch of podcasts. Problem is, every time I close the lid, it puts the computer to sleep. What settings do I want to choose to keep my computer running with the lid closed, without it going to sleep for ANY reason?

From messing with a friend's MBP, I know that you can close the lid 80% of the way and it won't go to sleep. Maybe you could just do that...?

You could leave the lid open and just put the screen to sleep. I don't thin kthere is a way to close the lid and not have it go to sleep.

How would I put the screen to sleep--just turn the brightness all the way down until the screen goes black?

No, if you go into the energy saver part of the system prefs, there is a slider for putting the screen to sleep and putting the system to sleep. Just slide the slider for the screen to the desired time and slide the one for the system to never. You're all set!

I did that exact thing to my settings when i got my macbook, yet it still goes to sleep.

Edit: Oops it might help if I uncheck the harddrive setting part there. xD
