I'm trying to find out if lack of fan control is still an issue on mid-summer unibody macbook pro's in bootcamp with windows vista.

Lots of articles around but none specifically address these new machines.

Anybody with one experiencing a hot vista under bootcamp and having to manually override fan control?

Vista is noticably warmer than OS X on the new MBPs, and you might have to overwrite the default fan controls if you plan to run intensive apps in Windows while using the laptop on your lap.

Otherwise, the heat is barable, and it does not become so warm that it causes damage to the laptop itself.

Completely agree with the above 2 posts, however sometimes Lubbo Fan Control doesn't work...at least for me anyway.

So an alternative to this, is to turn up Leopard, and run SMC Fan Control, set at whatever speed you need and then reboot into Windows.

Just the 1, labeled 'Mactintosh HD'. I really love the Disc utility on the Mac.

Yay hopefully you will get it tomorrow :)

I probably should have gone with Win7 but to be honest its only for games and possibly some programming when I get back to college, I literally need nothing else out of Windows, Mac OS X handles everything else perfectly for me now.

This is my only main concern about getting a mac too.

But for the windows side, I would only be using my blackberry sync thing, and some GRE test study programs on the windows side. I wonder if it will get hot. The rest i could just use osx

windows will definitely make it get hot but not to the point of damaging the laptop. the fans will kick in and bring down the temps as soon as it reaches 70's degrees celcius.

Well not too out, it's very cold here at the moment and I'm on firefox and watching Scrubs. But sometimes when I've been listening to music and on firefox it goes up to around 55-60 or more. Especially depends on the site, a heavy website will increase the heat.

if thats all your gonna do, you don't need bootcamp.. that would be a waste.... try something like Crossover, or run Windows in a virtual machine. In a VM you are still in OSX, none of the problems mentioned in this thread would effect you, and you could have the VM hiding Windows so you just saw your Win apps running next to your OSX apps.

I found that XP runs much cooler than Win7 in bootcamp.
