can someone let me know what app to download to raise the fan speed? I have seen a lot of different versions. My MBP is running at 90c when going hard and fan speed does not go up past 3000. Runs at 2000 at normal times 60c.

I use smcFanControl. My MBP has its fans constantly running at 6000 rpm.

smcFanControl is for OS X. So if you wanted to use this application to adjust the fans in Windows you can change your fan speeds in OS X then restart into Windows and the settings should remain. -
I am not sure if 6000 rpm is ok for the computer, it feels like it would be over loading the fans? i have mine at 3500 now on the coreduo 2.0 and it is running 56 degrees.
Check to make sure both your fans are running, mine had to be replaced since one of the fans were not working.
This has been a problem for a lot of people, they usually replace the top case and fans at the same time. -
I keep mine at 4000 rpm. The fans are almost inaudible and you can only really hear them if the room is completely silent. 6000 rpm is a bit noisy and probably is not very good for the fans to run them at that speed 24/7.

got smcfan control and that seemed to do the trick. thnxs.

so what's a good speed to leave it on then without really hurting the laptop ??
4000??? -
-
!?! im sorry to ask a dumb question ....
but should the right fan and left fan move at the same speend ?? -
theres is a box just below the fan sliders that says something like sync fans or something if you tick that box they'll move together.
-
ahhhh ic,
another quick question
once i turn it off , will the fan remain at the speed i set it to be ?
or will it slowly fade away? -
Why I assume this, is because many people boot into OS X, set up SMCFanControl, and then boot into Windows so the fan speed remains high in Windows (where there is no SMCFanControl to control fan speeds). So if the fan speeds stay the same in Windows, I would assume it stays the same after you close SMCFanControl.
You do know you can just keep SMCFanControl on your Menu Bar, right? -
On my MBP I generally run my fans at 3k RPM. There is little to no (noticable) change in noise level and it keeps the laptop a good 5c+ cooler, depending of course on what you're doing.
-
Im also running fans at 3000 RPM and I barely get over 50C in OS X with normal use.. music, videos etc. If im doing more C/GPU heavy tasks like photoshop or something I just adjust fans to bit higher rpm. Been working great so far.. and cant really say that there are any heat issues with my mbp. Just my two cents.

I use smcfancontrol generally keeping the left fan at 4500 and the right at 3000.
For the bootcamp users here, I grew tired of rebooting every time to get the fans working in windows, so I stumbled across this program today
Input remapper
http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?showtopic=58373
mainly its for remapping keys in bootcamp but it also has fan controls and seems to work fine in conjunction with smcfancontrol
you install it in windows and now you have fan controls without rebooting from osx
enjoy -
Is it just me, or am I the only one who can run at low RPM and still stay cool. I generally stay around 2000rpm, and im around 45c. Of course when I start using the cpu it goes up, but generally it stays below 60c all the time unless Im blocking the fans.

Yea mine is on almost all the time when im at home, and it doesnt seem to go above 55-60c. Guess im just lucky >_>
