I have my UE headphones plugged into my macbook and there seems to be a noticable hiss on it. Is there any way to fix this problem or is it just the way the audio is?

Unfortunately it's a hardware issue. It's not specific to the Macbook, though. Whenever you stick audio hardware as close as it is to other electronics found in laptops you get a little interference.

The hiss should go down as the impedance of your headphones goes up. Try out some better headphones and see how they treat you.

It's not really better headphones. UEs are really good headphones but they have low impedance so that they don't drain you mp3 player batteries like no tomorrow. I used Koss Ksc-75s and they have like 60 ohm impedance. No hiss. No problem.
