    :) :) :) SOLVED :) :) :)

I desperately need help with something. When I open System
Preferences, then 'Network', I'm trying to add "BLUETOOTH DUN" to this list of available connection choices and the Beach-Ball (coloured spinning progress wheel just sits there and spins forever). (I inadvertently hit the minus button to the Bluetooth connection feature. It's available, it just won't populate in the field). I tried re-installing my Snow Leopard CD and took an hour doing that and it made no difference. I need to get my System Preferences restored. Any ideas?

I tried a safe-start, several re-boots, trashing some plist files from the Library. NOTHING. It's the 'NETWORK' section in System Preferences that keeps freezing.......

with snow leopard, apple ditch the erase and install option. re-installing is actually is very similar to just doing upgrades. or archive and install.

to do the traditional clean install (erase and install) you actually needs to:

-during the install process, go to disk utility when give the chance.
-reformat the mac os x install partition.
-quit disk utility and continue with the installation

    google: snow leopard clean install.
here is one to get you started.

Sounds to me like your bluetooth chip is failing. I would recommend you to take it to an Apple store or send it to AppleCare to have it looked at.

Doubt it, it's probably an issue with Snow Leopard.

if you do the actual clean install, and it still isn't working, you most likely have a hardware issue.

Thanks for all the help. Rep points for you all.

    I solved the issue:

Hard Drive > Library > Preferences > System config.....

    I trashed 4 plists

apple.airport.pref / preferences / Networkinterfaces / and one other that I forget... haha. The thing is purring like a kitten. As far as I can tell, all I lost was my wi-fi auto settings to a few networks at my buddy's houses. I have all the passwords, so next time I'm there, I'll re-connect. My new Blackberry is now a recognized device in the connection field of "Network". I still haven't figured out how to connect via Bluetooth or hard-wired, but I'm a little closer.

    Thanks again!!! Woot woot!!!
