So I've got a new iMac here fir my parents but would like to get an xtra 4 gigs of ram. Where's the best place to find this? Macmall, amazon...? And could someone direct me to the exact product page...

Also, is upgrading memory a simple task? I seem to remember reading that it is but would like your opinions on the matter. YouTube tutorials, etc.

Lastly anyone have a demonoid invite they can spare :p?

    Thanks

The best place to find ram is the cheapest place you can find it, wherever that might be. Keep in mind you don't have to use Apple certified RAM either. Regular PC memory will work just fine.

See the Apple knowledge base article about upgrading memory. http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3918

right, but i dont really want to mix and match brands or the memory type.

how can i identify the type of ram in my system or is it just the "2 GB or 4 GB RAM SO-DIMMs of 1066MHz DDR3 SDRAM" as shown in the article you linked.

and do the imacs come with 1 stick of 4 gigs or is it 2 x 2 gigs?

mix and match ram isnt too much of an issue anymore unless you plan on a performance overclock.

If you have an imac with 4 gb it is 2 X 2 GB

    Crucial.com is good

even if you dont buy from Crucial.com .... they will tell you exactly what spec memory you need using their configurator on their website... if you do buy the memory from them for that specific machine, they will guarantee it will work. You can still take the full specs and buy elsewhere though.

I buy all my memory from them. No complaints so far.

For example, See Here @ Newegg. You'll have to scroll down on your own to find the RAM combo you're looking for :).
