Hey guys, my system had a weird kernel panic that I've been searching for solutions on and finding little. In the quest to NOT have to take it to Apple, I thought I'd ask the wise minds of NBR if they might have an idea what could have caused the following panic

    Code:
Interval Since Last Panic Report: 2818563 sec
    Panics Since Last Report: 2
    Anonymous UUID: 5E49CF49-1665-4022-8431-8B4099B8B321

Open, running applications: Mail, Fidelia (music), Firefox, Reeder, Dreamweaver, Photoshop. At the time of the freeze, the display was put to sleep via Expose active corner. When I tried to move the mouse to wake the display again, nothing happened and I heard the song that was playing in Fidelia stuttering in place. FWIW, I've put my laptop to sleep this same way with these same applications running regularly for 6 consecutive days without any issues. That would make it extremely hard to reproduce.

The last console message reported before the freeze:

    Code:
Mail[355]	error getting audio property: 560947818
    Seemingly unimportant.

I find it odd that the IOStorageFamily extension may be involved. The only thing plugged into USB was my bluetooth headset, which was charging. It is not synchronized with the laptop...it was just charging. The mention of WindowServer is less surprising, as I've read that Expose/Spaces usage can impact that.

It's possible that the parallels kexts or paragon kext are related...but really, those are the same drivers I used for almost a year on my 2010 MBP without ever experiencing this kind of issue. And Parallels was not running either. Paragon NTFS is always running.

I'm really pretty new to this kind of trouble-shooting, so if anyone has thoughts or input, it would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks.

Wait, macs don't crash! Obviously this is a fake! :)
Just kidding, I am actually planning on trying to help...

The most likely issue is actually not as much of a problem as it sounds like, as it could be simply a disk error.

One type is simply logical... which is an easy fix.
The other, is a hardware disk error.

I recommend finding your OS cd and running disk utilities, or for a more advanced user, boot to single-user (prompt) mode and typing FSCK.
(File System Check - yeah it should still be part of OSX)

In either case, I heartily recommend backing up as soon as you get back up and running. (in case the disk has a serious hardware error)

understood. I'll try the single user mode approach. It's an odd thing. I have run DiskInfo on the Windows side and all drives are in good health. will report back with the findings.

No issues after running FSCK -f (forced). Everything was found to be well.
