I am in love with the looks of the G4 powerbook 17" but here so many bad things about apple or mac in general. I want the notebook for internet, work (mobility once in a while), desktop replacement, and want the abitility to play dvd's. What are the main differences between windows and mac? Will I have a hard time emailing and communicating with people who have windows? My other choice is a IBM T42.

    Ahh...
    Mac vs Windows again lol..
There is nothing wrong with a Mac...the people that tell you "Macs Sux!" and other bull are either unintelligent or jealous...Macs aren't gaming machines, and most people that give Mac bad reviews are only considering their games (Which are on the increase now...)...I have a PC desktop that I play my games on, but for real work, I have a Mac 15" Powerbook...simply put, it's gorgeous...If I was going to pick a T42 or 17" Powerbook, I'd pick the 17 every time...The screen is literally to die for...plus, you get the added bonuses of no spyware or viruses to deal with, one huge key feature I'd say....Buy the Mac...you'll never regret it I'm sure...

On a mac, can you pretty much get games off the internet and play them with someone who has windows? I am not a big gaming person but once in a while like to play like scrabble or something like that which is downloaded from the internet. Many say there isnt much software out for the mac but how much do you need? Does a mac play dvd's just like a pc? Everyone makes a big deal about making the switch but what actually is it that is different other than the operating system. The main drawback for me with a apple is the 399.00 extra for the three yr. warantee. How is the support from apple? If I get lost will someone help me out? Thanks again. Paul

Boy, I just read a great review (here is the last part of it). I may have to get one of these.

The 17-inch PowerBook has it all. I'm not sure that there's any stock configuration for any notebook computer that comes close to matching the features of this machine. It has all the wired and wireless connectivity you could possibly need; it has a beautiful, huge, bright, clear screen; it has a built-in DVD and CD burner; it's just oozing with creative and productivity software for everything from keeping appointments to editing video to burning full-blown DVDs that'll run in a consumer DVD player; and, with a full 1 GHz G4 processor, it has the power to get the job done quickly. This is a total mobile solution. I have no choice but to give this machine the highest rating we give: a Must Buy recommendation, indicating that it's the best all-around solution in its class.
