Just today, when my machine goes to sleep it wakes up to the message "you must authenticate to unlock the screen" and then I have to enter my password.

I've searched all over for the setting to let my machine wake up without having to enter my password. How do I do that?

Go to system preferences, click on security, uncheck the box that says "require password to wake this computer from sleep or screen saver."

Just a suggestion, in the future, you can use the System Preferences search!

So for this one, type in "Password" and it'll highlight the sections that relate to the password :).

    Please HELP!!!!using Macbook 2ghz , 2gb ram, 80hdd
i recently updated OS to OS X 10.4.11.
2 days ago i put a master password in the system, since then it does not allow me in. At the time of booting it asks me a authenticate to unlock the screen. and no matter i put the master password(thats the only password i put in till date) in it says try again.
i even tried to install the mac OS X install CD( so that i can go to the utilities option and try reset there), but nothing seems to happen and the screen does not change to Install OS X. it again goes to "authenticate to unlock screen"..
    please advise

Replying to Paulashish - there are two different passwords. One is the regular, user password, the other is the Master Password. In your case, you would be using the "regular user password". I'm pretty sure you set this up when you first install the machine. Also, since the CD isn't working, you can try all the regular troubleshooting first (resetting PRAM, ect.).
