My mbp (about a month old) is having a problem. Today, I left the lid open to charge my ipod and left. When I came back, I found that a message had popped up. It read "You need to restart your computer" or something of the sort. So I restarted it and osx never came up, it just stayed on the gray screen with the apple logo and the little circle icon that shows it is loading. It stayed on this screen for 15-20 min. then I held down the power button and restarted the computer and the same thing happened again. What should I do? I need help!!!

Still, did you try Resetting the PRAM, which is #7 in the link above?

That's a good idea, especially if you've already tried all of those troubleshooting suggestions with no luck. Or you could wait and try some other suggestions from other NBR members. Are you able to Boot from the OSX Installer Disc? You probably have to insert it at the Gray Screen, then Restart and Hold C.

so i did this and at the screen where you have to select a destination volume to install oxx software to, it told me to click the option button because i have a newer version of osx than is on the install disk, so i clicked it and now the colored circle thing has been spinning for 15 minutes, i think its frozen or something

Does anyone have any other ideas?

You should take your computer into an Apple Store. I think they close at 6PM on Sundays, so you may have to wait until tomorrow. Check your local store's hours and maybe call ahead to let them know you're coming. Oh, please let us know what Apple says, the problem and their solution. Good luck!

Try using the Apple Hardware Test. Boot up the Mac, insert OS X Install Disc 1, restart the computer and hold down the C key.

If not take your Mac to the Apple Store.
