I have a 2.2Ghz MBP - 120GB hdd.
I have a 30GB file I need to back up, as I will be doing a clean install of Leopard when it comes out.
I went to look for an external hdd, but its not really worth buying it just for this...
Is there any way I can back this up onto multiple DVDs?
-
There are, but the easiest way would probably be just to compress it into multiple parts using RAR ( www.rarlabs.com) and copy the different parts onto different DVDs.

Small external HDD could still be a good investment if you feel you'd continue using it once the reboot is done. I bought a small 20Gb extra HDD last summer for a few backups but it's crazy how fast you get used to it and realise you need more space..I traded it for a 500Gb this summer and I keep all my backups on it.

Yeah, you should really invest in an external hard drive. In the long run it'll be helpful for backing up your files periodically... Just my 2 cents.
-
And since youre upgrading to leopard, if you get an external hdd you can use time machine, and your set for automatic backup.

An external HD isn't as expensive as you might think. If you use it to back-up data, it's almost the perfect solution. I got one and I know that I don't want to miss it. Nowadays, external HDs are fast and not so expensive, so I would go for it.

I actually had a free external HDD thrown in to my MBP purchase by accident.
Awesome! -
Well, I personally think you should get an external hard drive anyway...currently you have 30 GB to backup, but that number will most likely increase over time as you get more music, photos, etc.

I agree that an external hard drive is the best solution, but if you really don't want to/can't spend the money Taelrak's solution should work just fine for you.
