I don't know if it is just me or has Apple and other companies gone sue crazy between other upcoming and already developed companies.

It seems when ever I browse through technolohy websites now, all I read is someone being sued or threatning a lawsuit agaisnt someone.

Don't get me wrong I understand the need to protect your IPO, it's just the only one coming out on top is the lawyers here. As companies have to increase unit cost to over come the increasing cost of lawyers.

It's nothing new, maybe it just comes in batches when everyone sues people for the year.

Well Apple had been warning companies for a while and decided that they weren't listening.

I think you have the acronym "IPO" a little mixed up. IPO is the initial public offering of common stock for the first time. Apple hasn't been an IPO since 1980 :p

    Back on topic,
Apple has been known for their scare tactics. Whether it's through legal means or physical threats (some say) it's not really news if you ask me. But despite their business practice, I still find some of their products very innovating.

Here's an article that is somewhat related.

There are times where Apple has legit cases, but this new case against HTC is not this case.

Apple claimed to have invented undervolting, we all know this is not true. The reason why Apple is going after HTC is because they make the best smartphones for Android and WinMo OS.

Take out HTC, and you take out the smartphone competition.

Well its not so much Apple's bad policies, but a weakness in the Patent system. Apple does have a legitimate case with HTC, it may not be ethically right or competitively friendly, but its legally sound. If Apple does win, HTC will still be allowed to sell their phones, they'll just have to pay royalty to Apple, even if HTC was the first one to implement the technology.

I think we're in bizarro world, Apple is sue happy and Microsoft is agreeing to a browser choice screen in EU versions of Windows. I'm glad everything has come full circle.

Their patents aren't legally sound, that's what the court system is for. The patents are granted willy nilly, then when the time arises those patents are challenged in court for validity.

I think companies taking those patents abit too far they basically abusing it. with HTC case i think Apple fear the competition from Android and perhaps Winmo. i would says Apple take a dip in the water to see how Google would react? and if Apple win then Apple might get on with Google this also would scare those smaller companies as well which is one stone with three birds
