Wondering if anyone or any websites talk about video encoding on the new MBA.
I have a MBA 13" 2010 2.13, 4 gb, 256 gb and encoding seems to take a long time.
Does the 2011 MBA with the i7 really improve video encoding?
If so...anyone know by how much?

It will improve video encoding over the C2D in the 2010 MBAs. One website I saw ran a video encoding test in Handbrake. They were taking a 20 minute 720p source mpeg-4 AVC video (25fps with a rather large bitrate since the file size was around 3.8GB) and encoding another mpeg-4 AVC video using the AppleTV 2 settings and a constantly quality of 25.
The 2010 2.13GHz Core 2 Duo MBA took 16 minutes and 4 seconds to encode the video while an i7 equipped 2011 MBA took 8 minutes and 30 seconds. So take that for what you will since that represents only a single test. I know the 2011 MBA has the potential for much faster encoding times simply because Intel added hardware acerbated encoding abilities to the HD 3000. That means that, just like video decoding can be passed off to the HD 3000, so can video encoding. I don't think there is any software widely available that can do this though. -
About twice as fast on the 2011 quadcore versus C2D 2010 model. My roommate has a 2010 C2D and I just got a 2.2ghz quad.. we both use Handbrake.. My unit obliterates his in pure cpu function.. Where most encoding is 100% cpu dependant.
Edit: Just realized you were asking about MBAs.. but still, about twice as fast, going from the old C2D chips to the new Sandybridge is night and day. -
Yup, it's almost twice as fast...I did a test on the two and posted it in another tread.
