    Hey all,

    I have a Deskjet 5100 from HP.

The printer has a duplexer installed, however, the option in printer preference has been grayed out.

My older Macbook w/ Leopard can print both sides and has the proper driver support. Since it has been a while, I do not recall where I downloaded the drivers. It could be the built in Apple drivers, but I do remember downloading something to enable specific support + duplexer support.

Anyway, my new computer which runs Snow Leopard, doesn't now have the driver. I can't even find anything on HP. I'm getting a message stating that my printer is not support in 10.6

When I went thru the list of built in driver, I notice that it does have drivers for 5550... not too far off from my model.

Any one have any other suggestions?!

    Thanks!

You can't just look for model number to try and solve this issue. HP clumps their model numbers together for no good reason, so using the number as the basis of matching drivers is unlikely to be successful.

See if you can track down what newer model(s) HP replaced the 5100 with - that included the duplex option, since that one is likely to include the duplexer in the driver. That's the driver you'll want to try.

The other option, which I would suggest to try first, is the newest HP driver set for Snow Leopard, which was just updated by HP last week. You should be able to get it from either Software Update or the Apple site. Perhaps they updated the 5100 in that set :).

Alright, so I've checked, apparently the newest driver which I just installed does not include my printer driver.

However, the older version DOES! How can I remove the newest drivers that I just installed?

    Thanks!

Isn't there an "uninstall" feature for the HP software? Or you can go to System Preferences --> Printer & Fax and remove it from there.

THANKS!!!! You are a lifesaver! That worked!

I found the older drivers from Apple but can't install them because I'm on SL.
