hey guys, i playing with the idea of buying a mbp 15 with a hi res screen, the problem is that, the only ones i see on ebay, are they ones that are either 17" or like a mbp15 for like 2.5k. Do you think the upgrade is worth it? im coming from an m17x and have been on 1900x1200 for along time now, even on my 15" sager. also, is the upgrade from 1440x900 to Hi res noticable?

Or you can buy a old merom MBP and upgrade the WUXGA by yourself. Costs much less. Performance is weaker of course.

me too, i come from M17x as well. what i would say is that hi res is definitely noticeable on the 15' screen compare to standard res. Talking about is it worthy to upgrade, really depend on what will you do with the laptop and are you comfortable with the font size under the hi res. To me, i think standard res may get better fps than hi res, however considering macbook pro is much more weaker than ALIENWARE in gaming , GT 330M could be able to handle everything else understand hi res. i will probably go with hi res.

Merom is Intel's first Core 2 Duo mobile chip. Penryn and Nehalem came later. Basically buy an old one and upgrade the graphics and display yourself.

I got the hi-res option for my son on his new UMBP and it's better than his old Merom MBP. I have a 17 inch Penryn with high-res. If they made a WUXGA 15 inch, I'd buy it now. We use our laptops for real work so high-res is better.

Hi-res looks great, but for the price I would opt for a external display. Having a higher pixel count is very helpful when working with large images and videos, but in those cases having a nice 23"+ display next to your laptop would be a lot more beneficial.

And when browsing the web, playing games or watching video lower resolution might be better.

I don't know, paying $150 for a higher resolution display is a lot different than paying $200-$300 for an external display that won't be tied to the laptop at all times.
