I'm trying to install Windows XP Service Pack 3 on my new MacBook Pro, but I'm stuck. I sent away for an OEM copy, and the CD I got says that it includes Service Pack 3, which just came out.

Apple says you need to update Boot Camp to version 2.1 before installing Windows XP Service Pack 3. I downloaded the update, but when I click on it, I can only open it, and see code. My Mac says that it's a Windows file, so I'm guessing I can't use it with the OS X operating system.

What do I do? Apple says not to install Windows XP SP3 until Boot Camp is updated to 2.1, but I can't update Boot Camp! Is it okay to update Boot Camp to 2.1 after installing Windows? It looks like I have to, 'cause the 2.1 update appears to be a Windows file.

    Help! What do I do?

You said you tried updating Boot Camp 2.1 drivers in OS X? Well, first off, you should be installing the drivers through Windows. Also, do you have 2.0 drivers installed before installing your 2.1? You should do that first.

Some people reported having no problems installing 2.1 drivers with SP3, while others had problems. I guess you just have to find out for yourself.

So you're saying I update to 2.1 in Windows. I figured, seeing as the update is a windows file. Thanks, I'll go do it!

you have windows set up in boot camp i take it. i really hope you didn't buy a second license of windows (thats what it sounds like)

just do a clean install of windows xp sp3 and then install boot camp 2.0 and then the boot camp 2.1 update. (i know its out of order, but it should be fine- you may experience some graphical weirdness before you install the update)

Sorry for bringing this up again, but I have exactly the same problem.
I only have sp3 install-disc. When I try to install the BC 2.0 drivers, Windows just brutally crashes midway into the install. And the 2.1 update wont work (its kinda useless anyways, as I cant install 2.0?). Please help!
