I will be benchmarking the GRAW 2 multiplayer demo in about 40 minutes.
Basically it will consist of me setting the resolution at 1440x900, putting all the settings at max, 2x anti aliasing, 4x aniso filter, then running around and recording the framerate: minimum, maximum, and average, with FRAPS.
Take them with a grain of salt, though, because 1- it is a demo 2- it is multiplayer, and im pretty sure networking (depending on how it is implemented) can affect the performance of the game.
Plus, we have pretty young drivers for our 8600m gt anyway. (But they have been amazingly stable and powerful so far in my other benches)
this will be done on the 2.4 ghz macbook pro.
hold your breath.

i see you keep posting benchmarks...but could you post some screenshots as well? i would like to see how the games look on the MBP.

sure thing. ill get on that while graw finishes downloading.

I've been out of modern PC gaming for a year or two. I just want to see how these games look on 'low' and 'medium' settings.

all the settings are on max, 2x anti aliasing and 4x aniso filtering. at native resolution. the frames per second stay above 25 in 99% of situations. i did a few 60 second time demo's and that holds true. in some situations, where it has to render two large scenes (you can see just enough of an indoor scene so it has to render all of that, plus you can see just enough of an outdoor scene - through a door or maybe window - so it has to render all of that also) where the frames per second will dip down below 25.
95% of the time the fps stays between 40-60, rarely higher or lower.
the mbp is no joke.

plus- those screenshots had to get jpegged before i could post them- technically, in game looks even better/sharper.
i dont know if anyone could actually tell the difference though.
the compression that i did to those screens took some of the color out of them. i noticed the text first- the text colors are dull in those shots but saturated in game. some colors are dulled and some textures are mushy due to the screen shots. i wish i could show you the bmp. its not THAT different, but... still... -
jebus, thats insane...maybe i should put out the extra money for a MBP....
how well does windows run in bootcamp? -
masterchef341 The guy from The Notebook
perfectly. no joke. all the driver support you need is there, courtesy of apple bootcamp.
just make sure you get windows xp and not vista. you will have a better gaming experience at a minimum, for now at least.
all my benchmarking is done in 32 bit windows xp pro. it is the best gaming platform hands down for today. tomorrow, next week, next month, that may change. we will see. -

ok. i just ran graw 2. basically- with the standard anti aliasing option (not sure if it was 2x or 4x, but it was just a checkbox for anti aliasing, and setting aniso to 4x, all options to max, and native res.
i was getting 24fps. now, for a game like graw, 24 fps isnt THAT bad. its really slow paced. but- it was causing some pretty weird mouse lag issues. so i ditched the aliasing and aniso. that didnt change the framerate. hmm... so i set most of the settings to medium, and that bumped me up to 32 fps, which was very consistent (it barely wavered either up or down regardless of the intensity of the scene) - maybe 1/2 fps in either direction.
my impression is firstly that the game hasnt been released yet and therefore still has an opportunity to be optimized. also worth noting is that the game liked my whole system, but it didnt like my gpu driver. it told me to expect degraded performance because of it when it analyzed my hardware and printed out a report. i WAS using the patched version. still- i think a combination of game performance patches and driver updates could bring this game up to my standard - full native res, 2x anti aliasing, 4x aniso, all settings maxed.
also- this game looks horribly dated. hl2 looks way better by comparison. i dont know why it is such a system hog. i dont recommend this game at all. -
GRAW1 was terribly optimized for PC (yay Xbox360 port).

hah no kidding
well according to the ad that ran when the game closed out- graw 2 was developed exclusively for the pc. we should slap them on the wrists. -
Yes I would love to see screenshots -

blagh unfortunately i already uninstalled it. i still have the installation exe and patch. but i dont feel like reinstalling it right now. suffice it to say that it was nothing special- not near what FEAR looks like at all. it looks strikingly similar to GRAW 1. muddy textures and all.
