    1. CMD X does not cut the file.

    2. Someone?

    3. I mean like, if you delete a file inside a folder, it just becomes a big white hole. It should automatically arrange the files and remove the gap.

    1. I think it was cmd + c and cmd + alt + v

    2. Go to the system preference, trackpad, more something something, there will be choices for two or three finger scrolling in apps

Ah, I am not sure then. I always use list mode so it doesn't have that issue. I never use any icon modes for file explorers.

    EDIT:
    For #2: http://hints.macworld.com/article.php?story=201107211337186
Mr. MM was close, just cmd+c to copy the file then cmd+alt+v to move the copied file instead of pasting a copy.

    it works with 3 fingers
system preferences > trackpad> more gestures > swipe between pages

    two and three finger swipe
    that should work

Are you on Lion or something else? I am pretty sure you can cut a file as I have been able to do it.

Alternatively for pre-Lion, you can always drag your file and press cmd (analogous to shift in windows) so the files move instead of copying to the new place.

You can cut files in Lion but the method you mentioned earlier was incorrect. First you COPY the file then to go to the area you want to move it to and press OPTION, then right click and choose "Move Item Here". If you don't press OPTION then you can simply paste it. I like this method of cutting and pasting because you have 2 choices within the same operation. :)

That works for some applications but not for Finder. If you want to go back a folder, you have to click the back button. Swiping two fingers doesn't go back.

did you made the changes that I pointed out? by doing this the only way that you can swtich desktops is via a four finger swipe

Ok, yes it works now. It just seems odd that it wouldn't work when it was set to two fingers but it would with three fingers and desktop switching set to four.

EDIT: It's also not very intuitive. When I want to go back a folder, I swipe left. For everything else (i.e. books, safari, etc) going back is a right swipe.

I wonder if there is a "hack" for activating cmd+x in the Edit menu. But, cmd+C is the only way you can copy / cut, so just remember option or alt key with cmd+v. It isn't that bad considering some of the other shortcuts in programs like Word that I loled on when my professor was explaining them to a mac girl.

have you tried to change the language settings in the system preferences>language and text?

the only program that gives me creeps and annoy me to no end is word, since its a pain to change the language settings, since I usually write texts in portuguese, english, french and spanish, and word can keep up with the language changes. it always defaults to english which is the OSX language

Yeah, I've have English as primary and Norwegian as secondary... But, in this cases while I write english, as now, there is no problem, but when I write Norwegian it should automatically detect that and change it...

This is how Word usually works...

When I set the text-language to Norwegian, it does work, but I do have to restart my system… It still does not reorganize which language I'm typing… Any ideas?

I'm looking into a external mouse as I'm using my MacBook Pro far far, far more then planned. The most obvious is the Magic mouse as Apple calls it.. But that does work over Bluetooth right? My life is based on music, and while at home, I'm always listening to my music through Bluetooth.

I have a bluetooth receiver plugged in to my Logitech z906. I've until I got my MacBook Pro used that only for the iWhateveryounameit, because I were unsuccessful to get it working with Windows based PCs. But now since it works, I want to keep it. I do have a Logitech mouse, but then again, it will be using another USB port, and just does not go well with the MacBook Pro.

I'm still in love with this peace of technology… Currently, 3 videos are being exported, all the the same time. The fan is running for the full, and I have about 200MB of RAM left, but still, not a single lag… Not enough with that, I'm listening to music through external bluetooth speakers (iTunes), and outlook is running.

I use the magic mouse (yep, it's bluetooth) and a bluetooth headset on both of my laptops all the time. It isn't as good as the touchpad for gestures and such, but when you're at a desk, a mouse works the best (well for me).

The magic mouse is the ONLY bluetooth mouse I've ever used that has had NO lag. I've used probably 10 different bluetooth mice (mostly Microsoft/Logitech) and they all had noticeable lag. I was happily surprised to see no lag with this one and like you, I prefer to not tie up a usb port for the mouse.

The bluetooth headset I use is an old kensington model that is discontinued. Bought it probably 2 or 3 years ago for $50 and have never found anything with as good of quality.

Hey that is very nice to hear!

Looks like I'm going to spend some more money on Apple products tomorrow :)

Do they also make mouse pads? :D

I'm also thinking about that Apple Remote Control, do you got that as well?

PS: I'm still trying to figure out how this can run on 174MB free ram, this smooth...

    They make giant touchpads :p

I don't use the Apple Remote Control with my laptop, just my Apple TV. Doesn't have the best IR - almost have to be pointing it directly at the ATV2 box. Though somehow it still changes the volume on my laptop which is perpendicular to the path between the remote and ATV2. Kind of weird.

EDIT: I guess I have a lot of Apple products now. Funny cause 6 months ago I'd swear up and down that they were too locked down and blah blah blah can't swap memory, batteries, etc. Once I bought my iPhone 4S, it was all downhill. To anyone who wonders why I jumped ship - all I can say is everything just works without any effort.

HAHAHAHA, TALK ABOUT DEJAVU!! I were like that too! I started with iPhone 3GS, and used it for about 2-3 months then sold it. After that, I bought iPhone 4, nah, it was still too boring. After selling that one too, I bought iPhone 4S. And guess what? As you said, everything went downhill! All my friends are laughing at my now… I've also had the iPad 2, but got rid of it, but defiantly going to buy the 3th generation!

For now, I have MacBook Pro, iPhone 4s. Extra MageSafe power adapter and tomorrow the Magic Mouse… It is like a dream :D

I have also been looking for the Apple TV, BUT, 1. I'm moving out in 3-4 months, I think I'll get it then. 2. Lack of 1080p is a major drawback :/ 3. I have really no idea how it works… I were confident I would throw this MacBook Pro out of my window after 3 days of use, well, it seems like I'll throw my Acer out :p

I was concerned about the lack of 1080p but as far as I know, Netflix doesn't stream in 1080p and on my TV it looks great still. Comparing the streaming TV shows from iTunes on my ATV2 to my old HTPC which did full 1080p, I see no difference. But the TV shows I bought might only be 720p.

I don't think I use anything that is 1080p on my TV. Even the Xbox 360 games I believe run 720p.

If they release a 1080p ATV3 that isn't over $200 next week, I'll return my ATV2 and buy it. Mainly so I get 1080p from the Mountain Lion mirroring when that is released after summer. But anything over $200 and I might as well return to my HTPC.

Ah, I see. What about items you play? I mean, can I play something from my MacBook Pro (in iTunes) and it directly goes to my TV? Or, do I have to synch the Apple TV to my iTunes library, just as my iPhone?

You can stream from iTunes to your ATV2. I believe it can also access media files over the network from network shares - but I haven't used this feature since I have no media files. All my content is Hulu+ (built into TV), Netflix (built into TV, Xbox 360, ATV2) or iTunes (direct over ATV2).

I had my HTPC only so my girlfriend didn't need my laptop to be available to stream iTunes purchases.

I've just watched this and added Apple TV to my list for tomorrow.

Apple TV 2, iOS Airplay & Mirroring - What You Need to Know! - YouTube

So, I'm able to watch movies from my MacBook, but if a file is stored on my MacBook Pro, I want to surf on internet, or have to send some mail etc, will the Apple TV be able to read and play that in background?

One more thing, I think I just got my self a Apple buddy, bogatyr. BUT, I do have a bad feeling that my girlfriend is going to hate you because of all the new Apple products… Yes, she hates MacBooks and all that stuff, but love her iPhone 4S...

You can use your MBP for anything you want while streaming to the ATV2.

For mirroring from your iPhone or iPad, there is lag if you mirror a video over. It's not the greatest. If you use Airplay to play it on the ATV2 instead of mirroring, it runs quite a bit better. However not many apps use Airplay. Also some apps block mirroring (Hulu/HBO GO). Just a few things to keep in mind.

Also the mountain lion mirroring has some reported lag issues as well. Though that is still just a beta product.

I really not in for the mirror feature… What I've want is that my girlfriend can either watch her TV shows on my TV, while I'm using the MacBook Pro, or the other way around.

Do you think ATV 3 will be coming soon or is the ATV 2 new? I've also just read that iPad 3 is confirmed for 7th of March.

Well, the AppleTV is due for an upgrade since this is still the same model from 2010. I kind of doubt we will see an upgrade simply because the current model functions fine for what it is. I would like to see one capable of 1080p video playback (since both the iPad 2 and iPhone 4S can handle 10080p video) but that would likely require new hardware (similar to what is in the iPad 2 and iPhone 4S now), probably some new software, etc. It may not be in Apple's best interest to update a product that they view as a hobby.

Personally I would rather see Apple pay more attention to the AppleTV by coming out with new apps for it. I would really like to see Hulu Plus, HBO Go, Crackle, and various other online video apps along those lines. It's a shame that I am pretty much limited to YouTube and Netflix with the AppleTV. That is why mine is kind of retired. I had originally purchased it for my bedroom as a streaming device (so I could stream video content from my main computer) and internet video player. However, only having Netflix (yes, I know there are other video options on there but I don't use them) was a real bummer so I ended up buying a new Blu-ray player with everything I wanted.

Now my AppleTV kind of just sits there. I would gladly use that again for internet streaming since its interface is much better than that of my Sony Blu-ray player but Apple hasn't really done anything with it in a long time (other than adding iCloud support).

I see. That is also a big drawback for me. I have a lot of music videos on 1080p and I usually listen to them… And if this does not work, then I'm better of with my current setup, which is a own laptop for my TV. Maybe some mini-Mac would do? They look quite, simple and small.

I can only use it to watch TV series on ATV2 for now then, because that is the only 720p stuff I have.

The mac mini is 6 times the price of an ATV2. For you it may be different, but for me, 1080p isn't worth the extra $500.

EDIT: Also you can built a system the same size for less money. Intel makes a very nice integrated mini-ITX motherboard, add a Core i3 processor, a 64GB SSD and you're looking at $400 all said and done (including case and power supply).

You can even purchase 1080p capable nettops for around $300. They are slower that frozen poo but feature IGPs that are more than powerful enough to handle 1080p videos (even in iTunes). I have an Acer nettop in my bedroom now and use it just for that purpose. I believe I paid $260 for it through a Newegg sale.

My main issue with AppleTV mirroring is that it will be limited to 1280X720 (i.e. 720p) so my Mac's main display resolution is going to be decreased (thus making everything look blurry) and it will be hooked up to my 1080p HDTV. Now, I don't think that I am really sitting close enough to take full advantage of 1080p video but there is a big difference between 1080p and 720p for general OS use and web surfing.

I see. I now have my HP connected to my TV. I'm running on P8400, 8GB RAM, 320GB 7200 rpm drive and a blue ray drive. It is a laptop, but I have taken it apart, so it is running without a screen, keyboard, wifi card/antennas, palm rest, touchpad, modem, battery. Minimal to be clear. I'm having iTunes and everything up and running, so, maybe I should make that my own library?

bogatyr, the reason why the 1080p is so important for me is because I have all my stuff, well, most of it in 1080p…

I to be honest want everything on my MacBook Pro, so when I travel I have all my stuff with me. I travel a lot and never know where I end up for a night, but my MacBook is always travel in my car with me. But, for now, I don't have space for that… I wish there were a hybrid drive like 80 or 100GB SSD and 750GB HDD.

I built an HTPC for $400. Core i3 desktop processor, Intel mini-ITX mobo, 4GB ram, 64GB mSATA SSD, HDMI out 1080p. Im selling it right now on craigslist since I picked up the ATV2.

We rarely use it for anything outside iTunes since our TV does Netflix/Hulu+ natively. Rarely do we use HBO GO (until Game of Thrones/Trueblood come back out). For those rare times, we can use my MBP, MBA or her laptop. Hoping to get $300 for the HTPC and end up with a savings of $200 after the ATV2 purchase.

However, I'll see how I figure this out… For now, I think I'll get the ATV2 actually, and have it in the bedroom, and keep my HP connected to the projector in the living room. I'll also have to buy a bunch of bluetooth to jack adapters in order to be able to listened to music around the house...

You don't necessarily have to go the bluetooth route. You can use iTunes Home Sharing over your wi-fi network to get your music across multiple devices. You can even access your entire iTunes library from your iPhone 4S on your wi-fi network. You would need wireless bluetooth audio adapters if you want to use each computer to control the audio that is being played on the bluetooth receiver. Otherwise you can just use your iPhone 4S and physically hook that up to whatever receiver you want.

Okay, wait a minute… I now have my HP connected to my Logitech z906, channel1, on channel 2 I have my bluetooth jack. So, when I want to play my music, which is basically the same on both my iPhone and my iTunes library. So, what you now saying is that I can play control my music on my iTunes with my iPhone? With that I do not need to switch channels...

You can control iTunes' music playback through your iPhone using Remote. It is a free app developed by Apple for doing just that. There is also Home Sharing which will allow you to actually playback content on your iTunes library directly on your iPhone. So Apple has two methods for getting that up and running for you. That way, you can enjoy your music wirelessly throughout your house on your iPhone or, if you want, you can have it play directly through your HP PC which will be controlled by your iPhone.

That is awesome information, thank you!

I've actually read that before, but never looked more into it. I'll now do that…
