Is it already open? If so, you could return it, but there's a 10% restocking fee, unless there's something specifically wrong with it (not liking the color wouldn't normally include it).

You could try and sell it instead, although you'd probably take as much of a hit as the 10% restocking fee.

If you haven't opened it yet, you can return it and exchange it without any problems, I think.

yes i opened it. ill have to use it for a little while to decide if i would prefer the black. so in that case, i guess 10% is probably the least i could lose.

Not sure if this helps you or not, but you could change the color (not to black though) with a SeeThru Hard Case:

Some people also will customize the look with protective skins/etc. like this:

I've heard Apple sometimes does not charge the restocking fee if you upgrade to a more expensive product. It would all depend on the person you're dealing with.

Yeah, very good point. Couldn't hurt to talk to a salesperson (at an Apple Store or over the phone) and explain that you want to exchange it for a black one because you'd prefer that, but really don't want to pay the restocking fee. You might be able to convince them to waive it.

If that doesn't work, you could maybe try and come up with some reason it isn't satisfactory to you (I don't know, maybe "It's too slippery, I think I need the matte black version!").

Also, remember 10% of however much you paid for your Macbook is still quite a lot.

The white macbook is growing on me....so I'm not sure what I'll do yet. I think there is some initial shock in using a white computer, it feels very weird.

Is there any consensus on the best clear case/cover that can be put over it to keep it clean and scratch free?

You have a few options as far as case/covers go. You have hardcases like the Speck SeeThru, and also a variety of sleeves, etc. from SFbags.com (Waterfield Designs), Tom Bihn, Booq, Incase, Brenthaven, etc.

One thing to also consider is an InvisibleShield:

    http://www.shieldzone.com/laptops/

A little on the pricy side ($55 for a full body protection kit), but it does the trick..... see this review for an example:

    http://paulstamatiou.com/2006/07/15/review-macbook-invisible-shield/

If you are concerned about scratches, etc. this will do the trick, and basically prevent scratches, etc. when its out of any case or sleeve you might otherwise also get.

The other benefit of something like the InvisibleShield is that the full body kit protects the top, bottom and interior.
