Rumours have it that there will be a new revision in September. So waiting would probably be the best move at this time.

yes, it is too close to buy a macbook now. the new macbook is rumoured to be arriving this september. and this will likely feature new chipset.

what this means to you is.

more processing power, more battery life, more storage, basically increase in overall specification. oh, and there is one more thing... possible price drop.

I purchased the Santa Rosa Macbook about a week before the Penryn models came out. I paid restocking so I could have the newer model. The larger hard drive and more memory were worth more than the restocking fee. Of course if you wait, there's no restocking to worry about. After using a Mac for close to 3 years alongside XP Home and Pro, I would never opt for Windows if I could possibly get a Mac. I got the kids two minis earlier this year and they griped at first. Now they both want Macbooks.

This has always been a fair and reasonable assessment as to whether it's a good time to buy or not: http://buyersguide.macrumors.com/

For macbooks and MBPs it says to buy only if you absolutely must have it now, as the product is approaching end of life cycle which means either the replacement will be better (maybe much better) at the same cost and/or you'll be able to a get a pretty good discount on the current one after the replacement is announced (that's what happened to me when I bought my MBP as the Penryn models were just announced).

We juat had a similar thread yesterday regards getting a Macbook or a Sony (I'll assume you talking about the new Vaio Z). That thread is here with some more perspectives.

Honestly in my opinion the idea of buying a current series Macbook at the moment is right up there with attacking Russia during winter. Ask around, its not good.

Get a cheap netbook now if you need something to use immediately and wait till the end of september. Sony may/do have shipping delays depending on the model and Apple are notorious for saying nothing before launch then suddenly going all blitzkrieg on it with new models. Stay in your bunker till then.

You can take advantage of the free iPod promotion right now if you do need it right away for school, but if you expect you can survive without a notebook for say a month or two, then it is general consensus that a new MacBook is around the corner, probably with a redesign.

Apple is the world most greedy company they use out dated parts inside their system as well as never going to give you blu ray could only mean one thing, Apple is out to make money.

On those 2 points alone you will never get price drop. If battery life is anything like their boasting of 6 hours, you will be very disappointed.

Dropping prices of new product will destroy their used Computer market.

World's most greedy company? :p Exxon Mobil makes the most profit out of any corporation in the world, wouldn't that title go to them? :D

Not going with Blu Ray isn't only a money concern. From my opinion, Apple is banking on online, not plastic media, which is why I believe they won't be going Blu Ray. And Apple doesn't update as often as other manufacturers, which is why they update in "steps", instead of a slowly rising line like other manufacturers.

Apple rarely ever raises prices in its products. Products will stay the same price, or drop in price.

If Apples only upgrade once in a while in small steps, it makes sense then Apple will have to drop prices if they wish to fish in new ponds so to speak.

It took us a long long time before we even considered buying a Mac because of their slow and upcoming up to date computer line up. We only bought a MBP for our daughter because the Alienware m15x is too heavy for her to lug to school.

The reason for the iMac - my wife loves it. :) When we went to look at it, the iMac was surrounded by so many pretty women drooling all over it. They were playing with it wishing they could all afford one (including the wife) LoL.

I'll let you in on a secret - I wished I was the iMac that day i was dreaming that i was surrounded by those women playing with me on the beach drinking rum and whiskey lol.

They were rubbing me up and down then suddenly I woke up to reality, my i suddenly felt a tap on my shoulder. My wife said "stop drooling you pervert" LoL.
