I was wondering what was everybody's thoughts on getting a Macbook Pro at this time. I'm asking because mobile Nehalems are expected by the end of the year and i'm expecting Apple to upgrade as such.
Is there any reason to believe that they won't? it would really, really suck to have my mac replaced by a new model within only 3 months times(a year would be preferred, i could live with 6 months, but 3 months feels like a waste of money).
ps, i'd be getting a 17" model, so it'd be a fairly large investment.

They are due for an upgrade around Jan/Feb next year, should be quite a nice upgrade with nehalem and new gpus, it's what i'm waiting for. Let's hope for a quad core. -
heres to hoping its january. i can tough it out till then, but i don't want to wait much longer than that.
i think a quadcore with hyperthreading is a little excessive.
ps, are we expecting a duo-core nehalem still or has that been removed? what i would like to see is a duo-core westmere. 4 threads + 32nm + IGP would kick harsh . -
hmm january might be pushing it, especially seeing they probably will go for the dual-core westmere over the clarksfield quads which are set to launch Q4 2009.
i am really wishing with the quads, it is a "pro" computer though, haha. the heat and consumption from the first review makes it seem do-able but i just dont think they will.
ps. the dual-core nehalem's are the dualcore westmeres. -
thought it was gonna be January this year too and they pushed it off some for the majors...
Apple wants to get rid of old stock, so if there is a big rumor about "January" (or whatever) and they still have a lot of old stock machines, they'll ride that for awhile and then NOT release the new design... people are like.. dang I waited, there isn't anything... and there is a huge increase in sales clearing out a lot of the old stock. a couple months later then Apple releases the new model. Its a good business model really, even though the crafty consumer feels like they got "tricked" or something. -
Wow, I really don't know where you guys are getting your data. Historically Apple has announced updated/new Mac Pros in January, and has refreshed the iMac/notebook line in October/November in time for Christmas, with a second "window" in the Spring or early summer for the fall school market. Most consumers do not follow Intel product releases but rather time their laptop purchases to the holidays or back-to-school, and Apple, being very sharp marketeers, is well aware of it.

I think it's a good time since unibody is fairly new and I don't personally think any big update like that is coming anytime soon.
-
yes it is a good time to buy one i did! and i just got it too! and i am loving it!
-
The Alienware/Apple combination looks more common!
-
yes i have that for the gaming side/power house. and the macbook for all the portable solution. i am favoring the mac more though! it so much better imo. i am glad with my purchase! i will add 4GB of ram latter on.
-
The mac so much better than a quad with GTX 280M in SLI lol.
What's wrong with you .. No but I understand the portability and design, and OS X.
With the new 40nm nvidia gpus, I think they could replace the 9600M GT with something much better (GT 240M would be best bet). I guess they're waiting on the upcoming intel duos with IGP. -
yes! the OSX is the best part and the whole concept that it just works! and the multi-track pad!
-
I love the macbook pro 13, it has almost torn me away from PS, and yeah the track pad does work wonders
-
I have a Pro and I'm always tempted to go to Apple store and get a 17" Pro...it never ends!
-
I would say No. The Macbook Pro is due for upgrades by December, if not earlier.
-
What would the upgrade be? Blu-ray has to be around the corner for Apple. I can't believe it's no where to be found yet. PC has had it for a LONG time.
-
I don't care about when is the next upgrade. I only get it when I need it.
-
The next upgrade is always around the corner.
That's what's so awesome/crappy about technology.
Good time to buy a Macbook Pro?
