Being that I am new to OS X, having purchased my first MBP last week, where might I find a forum that is as active as NBR but for the OS X software and not the laptop hardware?

I have just a few issues I want to solve with OS X before I fully commit to owning and staying with an Apple computer.

WebDAV so I can share files with my iOS devices (semi-solved, no SSL yet)

Docking windows to the side of the screen like Windows 7 (solved, third party)

Are you referring to the "snap" feature? If so, that doesn't exist in OS X. It's the one thing I desperately miss in Mac OS that I had on my Windows 7 machines.

Yes, the snap feature. You never realize how much you use it until it's no longer there. Are there any programs I can buy for OS X to replicate the function?

Thanks. Downloaded through the App Store and works perfectly!

It's a godsend when trying to work with multiple code windows or terminal windows. Resizing each to be side by side manually is a chore when you do it countless times during an 8 hour period.

Glad to see there are at least some third-party options for window management equivalent to Win 7's snap feature. I love that feature, and I've often wished that OSX had an equivalent.

The nice thing about the program I linked to is that you can snap with a hotkey and can divide windows among four corners instead of just having them side by side.

Since I use an external mouse and keyboard 90% of the time, the hotkey switching of Window Magnet suits me better. Neat program, though.

Here here! While it "seems" to be a good feature, it really becomes annoying. Having to move windows around the screen and then suddenly the window clings to either the top or the sides of the screen attempting to "snap" to the sides or resize to a maximized window can be annoying when I wasn't trying to do that. I've turned that feature off on the PC we have.

I have installed Better Touch Tool for Mac which is a very good piece of free software and I've tried the Snap feature which can be handy but again that automatic snapping and resizing just gets in the way and I end up turning of BTT. I think Windows fans like this feature because Windows hasn't offered much "new" in functionality in years. There's plenty enough great features in OS X that I don't need to add any hinderance to my workflow.

For some of us, it's a boon to our workflow. That's why some of us like it, not because Windows hasn't offered many new features in the last few years. ;)

Exactly. For my research and writing, having two windows of the same size side-by-side is a godsend. Being able to snap via hotkey with these 3rd-party Mac programs is even better.

indeed, that is really one of the benefits of widescreen displays. I used to do that manually, now, its just a snap and its there
