I'm having a hard time finding games that will run on macbook. I'm ok with older games. I'm going to rebuy diablo 2 so I can run that. What other games can be multiplayed with there pc counter parts for some fun when I'm tired or writing?

of course I'm also rebuying the expansion disc for diablo 2 ;)

    I already have WOW

Pangea Software makes some pretty fun to play single player games for the Macbook, like Enigmo 2.
Halo UB will run, but only on very low settings.

Warcraft 3 would work, but I don't know if you can play against Windows users. I would doubt it.

Just about any Command & Conquer game would also be available and work on a Macbook, but those (at least the Generals series) I know don't work for playing multiplayer against Windows machines. In that particular case you can't even play multiplayer between an intel and powerpc mac (unless you run the powerpc version on the intel mac, but the game was too choppy for my MBP when I tried that).

In general, I don't think many games will allow multiplayer cross-platform. There are some Mac gaming websites out there, try looking at some of those - I'm sure someone has a list somewhere :)

you can play multiplayer just versus windows users just as you were one of them
there is also a game called Defcon, a game that has already been released on the windows platform and now is, i believe, in beta testing for the mac! check out their website, there forum is also a good place to start: http://www.everybody-dies.com/

When Aspyr did the port of Generals to OS X, they were only able to get Mac to Mac multiplayer working; there could be various reasons for that (something in the PC code that was difficult or impossible to port over).

Do they say that on the box I hope? That would really suck for people who purchase it thinking they can play with other people who have exactly the same game.

I see nothing about command and conquer generals that says it will not play online with pc versions?

Does anyone know for sure it will not work with the EA online games or direct connect with someone who has a pc version?

Yes, I know for sure. We play C&C Generals (well, mostly Zero Hour) on our LAN in the apartment a lot and the Mac versions are not compatible with the Windows versions. And the online play uses different servers altogether, so no chance there either.

Aspyr's site just isn't very detailed.

Apple's listing for it is actually more accurate:

Yes, WarCraft III uses battle.net for multiplayer. Blizzard is very good about PC/Mac integration (and they also release all of their games for Mac and PC at the same time).

So all these games are available natively for MAC, or are you using Bootcamp/Parallels to run it?

I can't run bootcamp and dual boot with windows until next week when I can borrow an sp2 cd since mine was before it.

I want to mainly use os x if possible though.
