I need some buying tips and advice. Planning to purchase an ssd drive.
My budget is around $300. 120GB capacity at least.
THere's a bunch of ssd drive online and am confuse which one to buy! I heard that SSD vertex 2 ssds are good and does not degrade performance overtime.

If I were you, I would wait right now. Lot of companies are in the middle of a refresh right now.
OCZ coming with the Vertex3
Intel with the SSD 510
Crucial with the C400
Corsair with the Force GT
These are all coming to the market in the coming weeks, AT BEST we can see some price competition soon. Just not a good time to invest in an SSD unless you need one like NOW NOW NOW. -
The new stuff is a lot faster than the old stuff so I'd agree to wait.
-
convinced.. be waiting.. when do u guys think the refresh ssd will be available?
-
The Corsair is supposed to be announced in next couple of days. The C400 is probably only 2-4 weeks away.
Just a bad time to invest in an SSD right now... If you don't want to spend $$$ on the new stuff (all them being the new 6GB sata), atleast it will drive prices down.
Vertex 3 benchmarks right now are simply mind blowing. -
Will the release of these new ssd's bring down the price of the older versions?
-
The Intel 510s are already being sold at Newegg - the older models (I bought one in January) have not come down in price. It appears that you pay more (quite a bit more) for the additional speed. I think that the prices of the new and older stuff will come down as the new stuff ships in volume but that might take a while.

I think the question answers itself. -
Intel 510 SSD works fine in a Late 2008 MBP but does NOT work in a Mid 2010 MBP. You can clone an old SL drive, but you can't install SL from scratch. I tried everything and no go!
Seems to be ok with the Nvidia chipset of the 2008 and not the intel chipset of the 2010. Ironic.
Or could be UEFI related... -
Sounds like waiting for a while would be a good idea then.
