Is the macbook glossy screen better or the matte screen. Just some opinions...had a hard time deciding today (but didn't make a difference because the campus store at my school was sold out of the 2.2 mbp before I got there) :(

-personally I couldn't tell much of a difference between the two...maybe it had something to do with the resolution (the glossy I was checking out was on a macbook, and the matte was on a macbookpro).

Please specify why you chose the specific screen type.

Maybe get your eyes checked ;). The MacBook is only available with a glossy screen and it looks completely different from the MacBook Pro's glossy screen.

I have the Glossy 15" MBP and I absolutely love it. The colors are very vivid, it's not very reflective like some other brand's glossy displays, and the screen is altogether snappier than the matte. It boils down to your personal opinion.

I don't like glossy for the reflections, but when there are no reflections the screen does look beautiful. Can't say the difference is that great though. And I prefer being without the reflections, so I went for the matte option for my MBP.

I actually was using two macbook pros for a few months, side by side. One with a glossy and one without. Not a huge difference.
The MBP glossy doesn't have a huge problem with reflection, unlike some of the Sony's and Dells with glossy screens I've used. Generally, if the light is bad enough to make it impossible to use, then I wouldn't be able to use a matte screen either.
Where are you planning on using it most? I find that direct sunlight is about the only thing that makes the glossy unusable. Any inside lights don't cause bad reflection (I used mine in my univ class rooms with plenty of overhead lighting) and had no problem with reflection. It is there, but it's not bad. Then again, some other people may disagree. It's really a matter of personal opinion.

Theres some mixed info regarding which is better for your eyes. Generally, glossy is better, but if you constantly do have to deal with reflections, then that can cause a lot more eyestrain. But overall, I think the glossy is the way to go.

I wonder if the difference would be more noticeable on the 17" MBP since there is more screen real estate to capture and reflect light. Does anyone have the 17" MBP glossy that could comment?

I saw the two screens on 2 different MBPs side by side at the Apple Store. I noticed the glare on the glossy screen and i can see how it would drive some people nuts. But the matte just looks dull compared to the glossy?

    Its all personal preference.

I agree with Hollownail on his comparison, though my personal preference is Matte. I'm very picky about reflections. So it's just my choice. Both screens are great so you have to decide for yourself unfortunately.

I got the MBP with glossy. I'm using it in the office today, which has lots of windows. The screen is so bright that the gloss has not been a factor.

I never could quite see why people keep asking this question.

Like size and weight, this is entirely subjective. There are concrete differences of each and advantages of using each in particular settings and how important color fidelity is to you - but the degree to which those differences matter to any user is completely subjective. Only your own opinion matters on this choice - no one else's does.

Go check out various screens under different settings and lighting conditions and pick the one you like best.

I agree with taelrak, there is no "glossy is better, matte is not as good". They are personal preferences. Some like the colours of a glossy screen, others like how matte is reflection-free. Some work in a bright office, others in a dim room. It will all end up being your own choice, you have to decide if you want glossy or matte. Both are great screen types, there's no "one's better". Its personal preference.

Will you be using the MBP outside or in an office/room where there are strong lights directly overhead? Glossy screens may not be best in those occasions, as the reflections may annoy you when you're trying to work. Although you may also find the reflections fine, its up to you. Glossy screens give out more vibrant colours, but in a sense that makes the colours "false" , so you may consider that a disadvantage if you do a lot of printing where you need exactly the colour you see on the screen. If that's the case, matte may be better for you.

Once again, it will all come down to you, whether you like glossy or matte. There's no "better type".

I prefer glossy for its looks. If there is a glare, go to a room with less lights, lower the blinds on a window..turn off some lights around you...lol.

I have one glossy and one matte .. the glossy is great around the house, but if you plan on traveling then you should def. go with the matte.

The glossy is much brighter, however when traveling matte is the choice
