    Hi,

As my sig states, I currently have a Toshiba laptop and have always been a PC user, and like lots of others, I'm jumping in the Apple train.

I ordered a 12" iBook from the Apple online store, with the 80gb hard drive upgrade, since doing it myself would require disassembling the whole thing. As for the memory, I know it's not too complicated so I'll wait for the money to be available.

I'm wondering, is there anyone who has had problems with getting a pre-upgraded machine from apple, since I've heard that they have to disassemble it themselves, as the machines are all pre-built? I mean could I have a less reliable machine because it has been handled by some random Apple technician?

    Thanks

Welcome to the wonderful world of the Mac.

I can't answer your question directly because both my Macs (12" PB and G4 iMac) were stock. However, I've been a subcriber to Apple's forums for years and have not seen a post about bto machines having unique problems.

    Enjoy.

I ordered 2GBs with my iMac and have found no problems with it. My friend has a 14" iBook and had the RAM upgraded to 1GB and has experienced no problems as well.

Okay , thanks, that'll help me getting through that ****ed waiting period, I can't stand it.

1~3 days to prepare and ship
3~8 days of transit until it reaches my door

!!! It's so bad !!! Apple ships from the USA to Canada, they don't have warehouses in Canada :( :( :(

    I'm daydreaming of it now!

Well, seems I can just wait.

at least you were able to build to order with an upgraded HD. I got mine stock cause thats all i could afford at the time, but this summer i want to upgrade the HD, and since you pretty much have to dissasemble the entire notebook, i am really debating on whether to do it myself or not.

RadcomTxx: Yeah, I almost got it stock for the same reasons, but I couldn't figure out how to live with only 40 gigs!!! So I cought up the additional dough...

gridtalker: thanks, I'm eager to wet myself! It still ISN'T shipped today, I guess they'll take the maximum of 3 days before sending it, which is monday :( Then, there's still about a week of waiting. I CAN'T wait...
