What's the trackpad gesture in Lion for going Back and Forward outside of Safari (e.g. in Finder)? Is there one?

...they also really should update iOS to allow the two-finger swipe for Safari there on the iPhone and iPad

It's not as elegant but it works. Hold down Command+Option+Control and perform 4 finger swipe left or right.

    Inelegant indeed.

In Safari i just 2 finger scroll past the edges, like your pushing the page off the side, and it goes backwards and forwards like the buttons... In Finder.. no idea

EDIT: ok I re-read and you said outside of safari... better get my glasses.

Snow Leopard used to carry over the two finger swipe for forward and backward navigation in Finder but Lion did away with it and I am not really sure why. In fact, the absence of this feature is kind of ticking me off especially since I became used to it in SL. I will still swipe back and forth with two fingers in Finder just hoping that it will go backward or forward before I finally give up and just hit the buttons.

Go to System Preferences > Trackpad > and under swipe, change the "Two finger" to "Two or three fingers" or just "Three Fingers"

This will enable swipe outside of safari

    :)

Problem is switching the gesture that way will disable the three finger drag.

I guess if the OP doesn't care for three finger drag then what i said would be a solution. But if you want the three fringer drag and swipe outside of safari then oh wells, maybe trackpad+? lol

Your settings didn't work for me. In fact, in Safari, it still only works with two fingers and a three finger swipe isn't recognized (if I change it to two or three fingers or just three fingers while changing the motion for switching between full screen apps to four finger swipe). So nothing changed on my end when editing those settings. I still can't swipe for forward and backward navigation outside of Safari.

I have everything in my trackpad settings checked except the three finger drag.

Under More Gestures, my swipe between pages is two or three fingers, my swipe between full-screen apps is four fingers, mission control is swipe up with four fingers, app expose is swipe down with four fingers, launchpad is pinch with thumb and three fingers and show desktop is spread with thumb and three fingers.

For whatever reason, three finger swiping for forward and backward navigation in Finder finally started working for me today. I have had it enable for a while now and it finally started working. I don't think you can change the Show Desktop gesture as Apple has made that something that can't be edited by the end user. There might be some workaround through a 3rd party application.
