Wich games have you tried running under Windows?
    How did it go?
I´m about to change a Compaq for a Macbook 2.0 Ghz, and was just wondering....
Not that I´m a hardcore gamer, but someone wrote a review with 3dmark benchmarks, and it was higher than my Turion ML-37 with the Xpress200m, I wonder if that´s really possible.
    Thanks guys

If you want to game on the Macbook, then you should use windows via bootcamp. The GPU the Intel GMA 950 gets like 64 mb of ram off your system ram on OS X but on windows it gets 224 MB of system ram, it is much better to game on windows. Best of luck and if you try to game on one please tell us how it went. Thanks!

Yeah, it really depends on what games you're going to be playing.

In all honesty, the ATI X200 is more powerful than the GMA 950 easily because it has its own dedicated memory.

I would believe its possible to get that 64MB in OS X up to the same as if windows were running.

To me it sounds like digging around in some configuration files might do something.

Probably not very good at all.

Look at the MBP if you want to do gaming, the Macbook wasn't designed for that.

Ok the only thing you have to worry about is the shading, the Intel GMA 90 doesnt have shading support which makes it not run a few games but as far as runnign games in windows it works great. I play Sims 2 with all its expansion, I have max resolution and all settings (except shading) set to max and it runs faster then my GeForce 4200-AMD 2400+ Desktop ran the game. I also play City of Villians at the highest settings and it runs absoultly fine, I get a little lag in CoV but its motly from the cheap internet connection. But i havnt had a problem with the gaming side of things, I play World of Warcraft on the MacSide however and It runs pretty smoothly only problem I get is some FPS issues but no lag at all. So gaming on the Windows side using Boot Camp is GREAT the mac gaming side could have used some work however.

Nevermind the original question I had here. New question.

Is the cd drive on the MBP ultra ultra sensitive or does it just suck? It seems like 1/4 to 1/2 the disks i put in arent read correctly.

Example, I got the diablo 2 installer to work properly. Yet after putting in the cd codes for it and the expansion it pops the disk out and asks for the diable 2 install disk... that is the disk it pops out and i put it bac in and it pops it out again.

This also happened when i was trying to install Warcraft 3 expansion (but not when i installed the original game...)

It is a bit frustrating to me... there are no visible scratches on this diablo disk either.

Anyone use the native installer ever or can advise?

If I were you in this case, I'll try to move the files from the CD to harddrive and see if the CDROM can read the CD, and maybe install it from harddrive. I'm not sure if Diablo 2 has those annoying security features that requires a disc.

I had something similar like that happen once, except it wouldn't read my DVDs, so I just rebooted and since than it worked fine. not sure what the deal with that was.

I don't know if you are using burnt cds that have the stuff on it you want to install, because that could be part of the problem as well.

I have restarted my computer and I have tried to take the fles off the cd and run it from my hd... no luck whatsoever

I even tried installing it on my PC and bringing the install files over, as expected no luck on that actually working haha - but the install cd read on that machine without a single problem.

I am using the actual Diablo 2 cd as well so I dont know what the problem is. When i get my hands on some blank CDs im going to attempt copying the install disc... that is the only other thing I can think of.

I played Warcraft 3 The Frozen Throne ( Expansion ) on MAC side cus I don't have a "SP2" XP , and it worked ok, but I need a different mouse, with both clicks, I currently have the mighty mouse >.< but the graphics weren't that bad. It is probably a lot better on the windows side.

"Both clicks"? The Mighty Mouse IS a two-button mouse. (actually more than that, even)

World of Warcraft runs fantastically on the windows side (not bothering to try it on OS X)

Anyway if you have the 2gbs of ram, it will make all the difference. I run at the settings Wow automatically assigned, but I upped the resolution to 1280 x 800. It is beautiful and I get framerates between 30-60 everywhere, IF, Stormwind, everywhere.

The only thing that is visually hindering, which isn't a big deal, is your viewing distance. Your viewing distance is limited, but by no means an inconvenience. If you are in town, or in an instance, or in a building, you won't be able to tell. For an idea of where it cuts off, if you are standing just around the Stormwind entrance (on the stormwind side of the bridge) you can barely see out the gate on the other side of the bridge. Obviously as you walk across the bridge, everything on the other side will render as you get closer.

I never expected Wow to play so beautifully on the Macbook's GMA 950, I am more then impressed.

Now that I think about it, I was playing last night with my gf, and I was walking around the countryside in Dun Morough and I didn't even notice the viewing distance, I forgot it was there. I can't emphasize how not a big deal it is.

I have tryed Counterstrike Source, and while i'm not done tinkering with it, it plays horribly, although I've seen and heard that HalfLife 2 runs great. So maybe there is hope.

I am going to try Warcraft 3 TFT today, so I will let you know how it goes.

IIRC, you can't both click and right-click at the same time using a Mighty Mouse, since you must use only one finger. So it is pretty unusable for gaming ( I assume you could configure the side/squeezable buttons to act as a right click, but it may be awkward).

Ah, didn't know that. Never tried to use a Mighty Mouse for gaming, so that usage never came up. Good to know :)
