I am using iStat Menus to display temperatures of different components. One thing that caught my eye today is that the GPU diode temp is being reported as -127 C. I am glad my 15" MBP runs really cool, but that's a bit too much, dont you think? :D

I assume this is just the software reading it wrong. Do you guys have the same thing on your MBPs?

    Thanks.

Switching between graphic modes (i.e., different GPUs) makes that reading disappear. In "better battery life", the GPU diode -127 appears. If I select "higher performance", then the correct GPU diode reading is displayed after log out/log in. Going back to "better battery lie", the GPU diode reading is not there any more. I guess iStat is trying to read something which is not there when in one mode vs. the other and reports it as a negative value?

That is exactly it. Having used PCs for years, I often saw -127C with MBM or Speedfan when you incorrectly set up the temps reading from the wrong device.

Having a -127 just means that the monitoring program isn't getting a correct reading from that diode. I would suggest updating the IStat. Personally I haven't had a temp reading issue with IStat on my machine, but I have the older late 2008 model...

happening when you put your laptop to sleep and then turn it on again, try restarting your laptop fully.
