This Windows authentication problem is driving me crazy!

My MBP runs fine using Bootcamp alone, but when I use Fusion Windows asks me to enter a product key. I had already entered the key when installing Windows after installing Bootcamp. I called Microsoft and they don't have a clue about Fusion. Any ideas?

It could be because the hardware has changes (virtual vs real) windows detects it and complains. Where did you obtain this copy of windows, what kind is it?

Windows XP Pro (OEM). I purchased it from Fry's two days ago.

Is Windows asking you to activate the VM or for a new product key? If you want to check the key and see what is up, open a command console in windows and type slmgr. That's a vbscript that will pop up a dialog box with all of the available command line args.

You probably want to run slmgr -xpr first to see if the current license is set to expire.

If you have never activated eventually you'll have no choice but to activate with a good product key.

Did you have Fusion install the VMWare Tools onto the virtual (boot camp) machine? I think another thread mentioned that its because you need the tools installed. Startup the boot camp partition from Fusion and under the Virtual Machine menu click Install VMWare Tools.
