After some considerable googling and forum rummaging, I'm aware of about 3 freeware icon changing programs: LiteCon, iCustomize and IconBox.

On Snow Leopard, the first two work fine with some people and not so much for others. Forum posters and customer reviews (at sites like MacUpdate) make no mention of OSX version they're running, so it's hard to tell if it's user error or OS incompatibility. The other program, IconBox, hasn't been updated since 2005, though one reviewer at MacUpdate says it works on Snow Leopard but is slow.

So does anyone know if there are any freeware icon changing programs that work reliably in 10.6.4?

Lastly, when you manually change an icon, without the assistance of a program, does the ability to restore to the original icon by pressing "Delete" expire at some point? I've tested it, and it still reverts days later, but I wonder a year+ later, whether it will restore.

    Thank you.

That's great to hear. Thanks a lot for sharing. Guess I'll give it a try then.
