    Hey guys
I posted the same topic in the Apple forums but didn't get any help,
recently got a new MBA 13" as my first ever mac and was quite happy with it until I updated to 10.7.1 and installed the thunderbolt/EFI updates.
And now I've got quite a lot of problems with the UI.
1)Icon magnification in the dock is sluggish
2)The animations in mission control is also sluggish
3)The app store is even worse than the other 2
4)The "X" button in Safari tabs disappears occasionally
5)Pinch to zoom doesn't work most of the time in Safari
6)The mail app doesn't quit most of the time and I have to force quit it

I google'd and found few suggestions such as reseting SMC/setting the scrollbars to "Show always"/Reseting RAM but none helped

After using iPhone and iPad,I was expecting the same experience with MBA but...

So any suggestion guys ? Do you think it's a software problem ?

    Thanks

Take it to the Apple store?

The Apple Store is probably one of the best parts about buying a mac they should be able to help you if everything on the internet didn't pan out.

PRAM reset wouldn't help that much on a new Mac. I believe it only resets clock and other trivial settings. I do agree with the poster above that you might as well take it to the apple store as you are under warranty.

If you're still within the return window, just bring it back and get a new one. It sounds like a hardware problem, especially since there are SO many issues. It could be an OS install issue, but to me it sounds like something isn't quite right with the build.

Bring it back and get a new one. Don't let them try to give you a refurbished one, no matter how many times they say its "even better than a new one." Its refurbished for a reason, you're better off getting a new one. I know from personal experience, both with me and other members of my family, that if you press them enough, they'll give you a new one. Just go in confident, don't let them blindside you with any possible solutions you haven't thought of (what you're doing now), and don't take no for an answer!

So do you guys think that it's a hardware failure and needs to be replaced?
Because in other forums, people suggested to wait for next OS updates

There is no way of knowing what the issue could be related to. It might be a software problem since you didn't experience this until after upgrading to 10.7.1 or it could be a hardware problem with the Intel HD 3000 or something else. We could tell you to go through a million different checks for 2 months and it may not do any good. The first thing I would do is a complete re-install of OS X Lion. Then, if that doesn't work, take it into an Apple Store. You can always take it into an Apple Store even if you don't want to complete a re-install though they may do it for you since Apple is not in the game of replacing notebooks without performing a few software checks first (ie you can't walk in and just replace your notebook, they have to look at it and do a few things first).

Re-installing OS X Lion would help ensure that it isn't a software problem though you never know. You can do this by restarting your computer and, while it is booting, hold the Option key on the keyboard. Boot from the recovery partition. OS X Lion will be re-downloaded and you can go from there. Just make sure all of your content is backed up. I would not use Time Machine and instead focus on manually backing up the physical files. If there is something wrong, you don't want it to be backed up in Time Machine (though I believe Time Machine might prevent this, it is better to be on the safe side). The downloading of OS X Lion is going to take the longest time and all comes down to your internet connection since the package is about 3.5-4GB (I can't really remember). It should only take about 20 minutes to actually install Lion. See if you have the same problems after a complete clean re-install.

I might just take it to the Apple Store without reinstalling. The reason is that they will take care of restoring all of your files and data and stuff. You pay extra for Apple's customer support, you might as well use it.

The Apple store is the best place for your answer. Why are you searching multiple forums for serious issues like this? The forum can only offer you so much sight unseen, so go to the Apple store.

interesting....the problems Maziar noticed, i have experienced the same in the MBP 13 2011-as well...i just put it down to the OS......

so like Maziar, i too (well actually my wife...whom i got this as a gift 03 days ago) am a noob in terms of MacOSX....i am still figuring out the gestures (my lappie is an AW ) ....but i do think i have

    the sluggish mission control
intermittent inability to pinch zoom in safari / or the picture app
haven't noticed the disappearing X in windows

issue is i live in rural/remote queensland....and won't be able to send the laptop away for diagnosis....and or find a local mac store

on a side note trying to setup shared (auto mounting) drives from my NAS onto the MAC and .....sugar...is it tough..i still haven't been able to show the Mac on the same work-group as the rest of the machines
