I picked up a MacBook Pro from my local Apple store last Friday. I've been a PC guy all my life, and just recently started using a Mac at school for graphic design. I liked OSX and the overall feel of the Mac so much that I decided to get my own.

So far the only thing I have trouble with is getting used to the much smaller keyboard of a notebook. This would probably be a problem for any notebook, so I don't consider it a con of the MacBook. Other than that everything else is absolutely perfect!

It's fast, quiet, and a lot of fun to use. The iLife suite is a really nice set of apps, and really easy to use. The build and design of the notebook is top notch too. I can't think of one thing after a weeks worth of use that I don't like.

All I need now is my Adobe CS2 to arrive so I can load it up and see how that works running through Rosetta. I hope I don't have the hickups others have delt with. I hear that not installing Version Cue is the key. Anyway just putting in my two cents.

I am happy I made the switch!

    Congratulations.

Anything through Rosetta "supposedly" (with 2GB of RAM) runs better than it does on PowerPC, but not as good as a UB yet, so you should be fine.

Ha, funny you said that. So I spent the cash on the MBP, then I shelled out more for an Airport Express and Microsoft Office yesterday. Then today I've been looking at buying one more stick of ram to make it 2gb total. I have expensive hobbies!

Yeah, a Mac does indeed tend to be more expensive than you at first expect. Same story here my friend.

One doesn't really need Aiport Express, and MS Office would be needed if you used a Windows-based notebook. I understand chrisbutts has already bought CS2, but in case he didn't... wouldn't it be better to wait for CS3? It's not that far away now.

If he hasn't bought it yet, I would wait.

I would have waited but I use it on a daily basis, so I needed it. Also I go Adobe to switch my PC version to the Mac version (and updated it to 2.3 with Dreamweaver 8) for only $159. I thought that was a pretty good deal.

I couldn't afford to wait until next spring or whenever Adobe finally comes out with CS3. Hopefully I can get it for just the upgrade cost when it does come out.

Office was more for the wife than for me. She needed the familiarity of that suite to do the things she normally does. I don't even use Entourage, and probably won't ever use PowerPoint.

I've been running CS2 for a few hours now with no problems so far. I didn't install Version Cue. It's not too bad running through Rosetta. If it starts buggin me though I'll probably spring for one more stick of ram.
