I have a macbook pro (tiger, late 06 version), and firefox seems to cause some kind of overload. I mean I have a 2.16GHz processor and 2GB memory, how the does it have so much trouble running a simple application like firefox?

In rare situations, programs on Mac OS will crash just like Windows. It's normal for programs to cause "overload". Try uninstalling firefox, then reinstall it.

Try using Safari. I find it to be much more stable.

    same problem here

my firefox crashing certainly isn't rare - 2 to 3 times per day

safari doesn't do it for me - not customizable (but that might be a part of the crashing on firefox)

well, i really don't like firefox:mac. But i've found Shiretoko (that is a intel optimized version of firefox) to run pretty well. You can try it and see if it suits you. Just search in google and you'll find it.

Sometimes firrefox is crashed with my unibody MBP also but it's not that frequently.
At school, the imac is always crashed when I visit certain websites and I cant log in to NBR.
Well,. I guess a clean install would help.
Firefox is faster than safari imo.

Firefox is the ONLY program that crashes with regularity on my Macbook Pro. I think it has a lot to do with extensions, I had a few web developer extensions that really messed things up, removed those and it was smoother.
However if you want a really smooth browsing experience, use Safari, it's well tested on Mac and is smooth and fast.

Yep, Firefox and quite a few of the Office for Mac applications like Entourage crash on me quite often, and sometimes they completely don't open at all. :( Those are the frequent troublemakers in my 'book. :p
