G'day! This is a problem I've had ever since I started using right clicking, be it on the desktop, or on finder. Not sure if it's a 10.4.10 issue, since the minute I got the macbook (june) I installed all the updates.
The problem is that sometimes when I right click finder crashes, sort of how when windows explorer.exe crashes and the icons dissapear along with the taskbar and then reappear again, all finder windows close and the desktop icons dissapear, but only when I right click, be it with a mouse or with a trackpad.
Does anyone else have the same problem?

Do you have Stuffit installed?
-
Yes. Should I erase it?
-
StuffIt adds a plugin that messes with the contextual menu (right-click menu), which is what tends to cause such crashes.
You can go to http://www.stuffit.com/mac/deluxe/updates.html, get the latest update.
Or if you already have the latest update, just dl the patch: http://www.stuffit.com/mac/deluxe/StuffItCM11.0.2.628Updater.sitx to fix the plugin.
Or, you can simply delete the plugin entirely in ~/Library/Contextual Menu Items/StuffItCM.plugin. -
I had the same problem and it still occured after deleting stuffit from the applications folder and form the library.
I found nother cause on google which could be the .DS_Store file which could be corrupt. I found a script that and ran it to delete all the .DS_Store files in my /user folder.
I'd try the solution that taelrak suggested and then try deleting the .DS_Store. -
If it's not that stuffit thing, you may want to give repairing permissions a shot. That's usually the first thing most Mac users do when a problem pops up.
I'm sure you've already tried this, though, but you never know. -
Thanks guys, I just uninstalled the program since I don't really use it anymore, and manually deleted the plugin also. Everything works great now.
Thanks again. -
Nice call, taelrak.
