Is there any way to make it so that every time I click say Go -> Applications it opens a new finer window instead of changing an existing one? I often have a couple of Finder open in other spaces and it will switch to that space. Kind of annoying. Thanks.

You won't find any alternative to the multiple finder windows. This works as designed, for every apps/events happen in their own "protected" memory space, stopping the whole system to crash if one or many processes are down.
I do agree sometimes that a "collected/consolidated" view would be better for the eyes and in small spaces.

Not sure what you are getting at. I can easily open more than 1 Finder window. The problem is having it automatically open a Finder window in the current space instead of using an existing one in another space.

I see. My bad.
There is a commercial "Finfer Window Manager" that let you control how windows are being viewed, accessed and recycled.

It will only work if you go Finder > Preferences > General Tab and check Always Open Folders in a New Window.
But that will do it for every folder you double click on.
If you're using the "columns" view, you'll be fine, because clicking on an item in the column view will just open it to the right. -
Thanks for the info. Currently trying that out. Not sure if it is worth the sacrifice. Too used to how Explorer works lol.

To open multiple Finder windows, from the Menu Bar choose Finder-Preferences-General Tab. Click the radio button that says "Always Open Folders in a New window".

if definitely don't recommend turning on that option, I find that to be incredibly annoying and a absolute waste of resources, although minor, all of those open windows use resources and can be downright annoying.
there is a back button and multi-touch gestures for a reason.
that said, what might be the best solution is to set Finder to be open in Every Space, in your Spaces preferences, so all of your Finder windows will always move around with you.
or you can just get used to Key Commands, Cmd+N for a new finder window, and Cmd+Shift+A for Applications. and don't forget to get used to using Cmd+Tab to quickly switch between apps, that one will be your best friend. -
Another handy thing to know when using exposé is that you can use tab to quickly cycle through all of the running apps' windows. So, say you have two safari windows, a textedit window, iChat, and a few Finder windows, hitting tab will allow you to cycle through each apps active windows and exposé will spotlight the windows and group them for you.
