Can anyone recommend a program that is actually useful? The reviews of Quicken/Quickbooks 2007 are awful, and Intuit is saying 2008 won't be out until the Fall. I've resorted to Moneydance, but have found it very limited. Am I going to have to partition and buy Vista and Quicken for PC just to be able to do my budgeting? [As a pretty basic computer user, I was hoping to stick to one OS...]

Try Moneywell or Debtinator. Both have great reviews, but I don't have any personal experience with them.

My favorite so far is iBank. I think I tried pretty much every program out there for the Mac. Something close to 15 programs and iBank was my favorite. Still, none are as good as Quicken for Windows.

You could try Codeweavers' Crossover for Mac and have Quicken for pc on your laptop. I believe they support it. Crossover for Mac is only beta though.

Hey all - thanks for the ideas - I hadn't heard of any of these programs. Checked them out, and here are my first impressions, in case anyone out there is in the same boat I am:
- Debtinator isn't really a track your finances program - more about long-term planning to get out of debt
- Moneywell has potential, but is pretty new, so I'm going to keep an eye on it
- ibank looks good - has mixed reviews but I might give it a try
- Crossover looks very cool, and they already have some compatibility with Quicken for PC; I'm going to wait for the next version and see where they are with Quicken 2008 [I'm surprised Apple or Microsoft haven't gone after these folks for some kind of license/copyright issue 'cause Codeweavers seem to be doing what should be done - making it so one computer can do anything - more so than VMWare or Parallels]
If anyone has any other recos, please do share!
Thanks....
