What makes Final Cut worth the upgrade? Is it that much more useful?

It's a whole lot more in-depth, and has a bunch of features that iMovie 08 doesn't have.

iMovie is now more than ever a cut down version of final cut. I always used it because of its ability to use green screens and adjust picture color. Not to mention you can layer video, crop it, and countless other things. Its the PS of video editing. PS>iPhoto Final Cut>iMovie. If can't do it in iMovie, chances are you can do it final cut.

Final Cut Express and Final Cut Studio have a pretty large gap between them, not only in features but also price.

I assume you are talking about Final Cut Express, it is a huge upgrade from what iMovie is capable of, although it really just depends what you want to do.

I can easily use all that Fina Cut Studio has to offer, but many will never even scratch the surface of what iMovie can do.
