This is my first Mac and am currently encountering problems with Acrobat reader. I've googled but no luck; for some reason I simply cannot fill out PDF forms. Anyone has got a clue on a possible solution for that?

    Thanks in advance.

Post a link to the form and I'll see if I have problems. Never have had issues before.

You shouldn't be using Adobe Reader. Mac computers are PDF based and they have their own reader built in that can fill out PDF forms. If you install Adobe Reader it creates issues since it's counter-interactive. Uninstall it and use Apple's Preview application to fill out and read PDFs.

Mac computers are PDF based? Macs are portable document format based?

Mac OSX has plugins preinstalled/built in to preview Adobe PDF files.

Maybe I wasn't completely clear (as I didn't think it was completely necessary) but Quartz (the graphics engine for OS X) is PDF based which is at the core of the Mac OS X system. This is why you can create PDF's system wide. Maybe you should take a look at this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ko4V3G4NqII

Of course, leave it to YOU to correct me, what else is new.

Why don't you offer help to the OP rather than finding flaws with other member's postings.

I've been having the same problems with fillable pdf form as well.

    http://www.queensu.ca/fins/forms/pdf/travel_domestic5percentGST.pdf

I never have any problems with this filling out this page, and it will also provide the total amount automatically. With mac, it never works, all the columns never show up, although I can still navigate through them using tab, but it just doesn't provide the sum of each row.

I even tried firefox and camino, and none of them works.

    This is the pdf form:
    http://nl.sitestat.com/ibg/ibg/s?84...://www.ib-groep.nl/Images/8417A_tcm7-7166.pdf

Well, I've tried to use preview to fill in the form, but that didn't work. Should I have used some other software? (I only installed Adobe after Preview didnt seem to work).

    Hi Empulse,

I opened up the pdf in acrobat pro and it does not have any editable fields, ie. its a problem with the document not the application, as far as I can tell. I thought I would try to create the fill-in fields in acrobat pro since there is an automated tool for that, but from the results I've just seen its not very accurate. To do it manually would take me longer than if you just printed it and filled it in by hand, I think.

I don't remember ever having had a problem with acrobat and preview not getting along, but maybe I've been in Windows those times I've filled in a pdf form....haven't done that many of them that I can be sure.

Just checked it in Vista to be sure....no editable fields in the document.

I don't have any issues with that form in Safari with Acrobat 9 or with Acrobat Pro 9 stand alone. It doesn't work with Preview however; as you say the columns are not summed up. Try getting the latest version of acrobat reader and see if that works.

Trying it in Firefox, it simply downloaded the file.

Same here, I opened this PDF on three machines, one Mac and two windows, and the fields are definitely not editable.

NgCir, thanks for trying. I normally fill their forms out in Acrobat reader, but will do it manually then! Once again thank you all for you help.

Mozila Firefox is terrible at opening a dynamic interactive Adobe pdf form.

When I logged into my portal to open the adobe form, Firefox prompts me with a version update for the Adobe Reader which does not exist at all, then the whole window went blank. Schubert IT plugins (pdf browser plugin 2.3.2) and quartz plugins 1.1.3 don't work in the Firefox web browser as well.

Alternatively, Safari works so well at opening all types of Adobe pdf forms including dynamic interactive forms. The amazing thing is that it doesn't need plugins to work.

Firefox has a long way to go in terms of innovation...
