    Ridiculously expensive. At that rate, I would not be getting the iPhone, I'd rather get a Blackberry.

    yep, the blackberry bold just got a lot more tempting. And with itunes support, it just adds to the temptation.

    Though I might just be lazy and get an ipod touch.

    thats a minimum of $2160 for the iphone plan, which, if im not wrong, is REQUIRED with the purchase of the new iphone?

    so $200 for an iphone. $2000 for the data plan. should have seen that one coming.

    Whats even worse, you spend $115, and you still don't get CALLER ID! I am really mad, I was looking forward to the Iphone but I guess I'm not getting it now.

    If you are getting it from rogers, don't forget to bring some lube when you go to buy it, rogers will be to cheap to supply any.

    Yep, if I was living in Canada I would be considering the bold. Those plan prices are ridiculous. Even here in Venezuela, which is far behind Canada technologically (some might even call us a third world country) get far better rates, then again, we still don't have a firm iphone date...

    Another fine example of Canadians getting shafted even though our Dollar is on Par with the US. I wish At&T would move north and offer some competition.
    I am about ready to ditch my BB on Bell Aliant. The absolute worst service I have ever experienced. I can't even remember how many times error have been made in my Bill never in my Favor. Last one was a mess up by Bell for over $1300 on my BB. So bye bye BELL.

    Heck might even get an old unlocked Iphone. Might be cheaper in the end.

    umm.. it has nothing to do with dollar parity and everything to do with Canadian apathy and lack of competition.

    cell companies know they can rape customers here because people will bend over and pay for it with little or no outcry. of all the places around the world Canada is probably one of the worst to own a cellphone in. and it's been like this for years.

    it really has little to do with the iPhone, in fact Apple is one of the few companies that does sell their computers and products at parity on both sides of the border. it's good ole Canadian Rogers that's making you grab your ankles for this.

    australian prices are 280 for the 8gb and 400 for the 16gb. we were always going to get raped, and thats before whatever these obligatory plans are going to be like. luckily there will at least be competition between different providers. although i really getting over all the iphoneness, i have had a lot of smartphones in the past, and recently my n80 broke on me, so i have "downgraded" to a 6300 but really its great, this thing is light and built like a brick, i can drop the thing without worrying and has great battery life.

    Us Canadians will always get shafted by contract costs. What we need is 2-3 competitors to Rogers so that we can get a better deal.

    I really feel for potential Canadian iPhone buyers on this. It looks almost worse than the Irish prices for the 3G version, and my country is known for ripping off anything that comes within missle range of its borders (you stop your car at traffic lights on the northside of Dublin and you'll be buying back your hubcaps in ten minutes). With this in mind can I ask everyone to show solidarity and sign the petition at

    http://www.ruinediphone.com/

    to try and persuade Rogers to back down from ruining the iPhone experience for Canadians. It says you have to be Canadian resident or a Canadian working/living abroad, make of that what you will.

    I am also disappointed. I was so looking forward to getting the new Iphone in Canada. But since I work over seas and want to keep my number while working in the US, the North American plan will be way too expensive. I guess I will just have to purchase a last gen Iphone and use a Rogers sim card, with digital north american plan on it. :(

    You could get yourself a new 3G and do the same. The English have released their prices for pay as you go on the iPhone 3G. They are
    8gb = €377 (approx $600 CAD)
    16gb = €454 (approx $730 CAD)

    Importing something like that should not incur more taxes, in fact you should be able to get a 17% VAT refund leaving the prices at $513 and $623 CAD for 8GB and 16GB respectively. Its still a rip-off for the tech involved but if you consider thats without contract and is almost the same price as the 2.5G iPhone was with contract last year its not so bad. If those are the English prices others should be less once announced.

    newfiejudd you could get one of those an a different data plan I reckon, yes/no?. I really don't know much about Rogers apart from I have heard their name mentioned in the same sentences as Hitler and Stalin.

    So both Rogers and AT&T have a basic iPhone plan (about $70/month - if you include SAF with Rogers) only they are quite different.

    With Rogers you get only 150 mins (which is less than what my grandma uses), 400 MB data :eek: and not even voice mail. And you have to sign up for three years. With AT&T the same plan gets you 450 mins, unlimited data and visual voice mail included. Oh and they make you sign a 2 year contract instead.

    And yet Rogers is arrogant enough to call their plan, and I quote, "high-value price packages to meet the needs of Canadian iPhone aficionados." :rolleyes:

    I truly hope Canadians don't buy the iPhone and send a message to Rogers. That's the only message Rogers is able to receive.

    Depending how this turns out, I'm seriously considering canceling my 3 lines with Rogers. It's absolutely absurd that Rogers continues to gouge customers the way they do.

    Well, Rogers had a "chance" to show that it priced fairly with the iPhone...and instead of not even matching its normal pricing, it upped it.

    Really, while Rogers is being terrible, I'm not singling them out: any corporation that has a monopoly on the market (being the only GSM provider in Canada) would make an extra buck out of every deal if they can. It would've been the same if any other corporation was in Rogers' position.

    What needs to happen is to bring in more competition to the wireless market. Hopefully the upcoming spectrum auction will bring in a few new players.

    Wow, that is huge :eek:. That is proof, if any, that even Apple isn't happy with Rogers. The Apple Store was the big seller in the US (compared to AT&T stores), and Apple not selling iPhones in its Apple Stores is seriously, open embarassment for Rogers.

    While I have looked at switching to AT&T to get the IPhone, I didn't take the plunge because of the high price for the plan. That was back when the IPhone was first introduced. Now it's just ludicrous.

    Now, I'm more inclined to getting a Blackberry (specifically the upcoming Blackberry Thunder), which has more open-ness than the IPhone has, and better plans through Verizon.

    I was honestly hoping that rogers would be turning a new leaf with the iphone, but they wern't, just went back to gouging its customers.
