as said in another thead I want a mac book.

but there is still maybe a 40% chance I'll get the 15'' MBP instead...but i have a few questions...DO ANY users here experience any of these problems or know anything about them?

    (From Wiki on MBP)

    #1
Some users have reported that the new LED screen technology for the Mid 2007 15.4" MBP model, has a defective screen, whereby the lower third of the screen shows a yellowish tint when viewed straight on. The problem has manifested itself on both the glossy and matte type screens, and on both manufacturers of the screen, LG and Samsung. However it seems that the Samsung screens are more likely to have this problem. Apple has not publicly acknowledged this problem as of August 1, 2007. However, there have not been as many problems reported recently with the newer builds.

    #2
There have been complaints about the MagSafe power adaptor breaking at its magnetic connector head, and in some instances melting while the wire is exposed.

    #3
A claim of excessive heat generation, which was initially speculated to be caused by the application of excessive quantities of thermal grease on the processor during manufacturing. Apparently the new Macbook Pros suffer the same problem.

    #4
A hissing noise often described as a whine, found to be caused by an idle processor. Software workarounds and the effect of screen position and power source on the issue have been reported.[14][15] As of July 2006, Apple acknowledged the problem[16], and a replacement mainboard has fixed the "whine" issue for some users.

I've had my MBP for only 2 weeks, but i guess i can still be of help.

#1 -- My screen does not have the yellowish tint/defective screen
    #2 -- This hasn't happened (but It's only been 2 weeks)
#3 -- Can't help you there.. i don't really know. All mbp's can get pretty hot. From my understanding however, the Santa Rosa model has improved on this.
#4 -- I'm quite familiar with the infamous CPU whine because prior to purchasing my MBP I had a brand new XPS m1330. If you were to visit the Dell forums, or simply do a search on m1330 and whine, you'd find it's quite prevalent on that machine. I had my system replaced for that reason and went on to sell the replacement on ebay (assuming the replacement would still suffer form a whine... as far as i know the buyer is satisfied). I purchased my MBP and the first thing i did was listen for the dreadful noise, and thankfully there was none. The only noise from this laptop is from the fans, which in my opinion are pretty quiet in comparison with other laptops. Even the hard drive is pretty silent.

    Hope that helps a bit.

My screen has that slight yellowish tint on pure white screens.

I have not experienced any of those problems with my MBP.
Being that my last notebook was a Sager, I was not aware that the MBP made any noise whatsoever :)

Had mine since the end of September and have none of the issues you describe. Fans get a bit noisy when running 3D games in both OS X and Windows, but it's nothing out of the ordinary.

I've had my machine for a while now, and will agree that the machine does get toasty. While it's not really uncomfortable, denying the warmth that it produces would be unfair to a concerned potential buyer.

As far as your other concerns, in my personal experience, they don't exist. A last point, I agree with sagebrush with respect to my own MBP - it's silent.

    1. Yes, there was an issue with LED-backlit screens having a yellow tint, however, even the users who found it barely noticed it, and I haven't heard much about it in the past month and so, so it seems it may have been more of an issue with early shipments.

    2. I have a MacBook, but its MagSafe power cord is similar to MBP. I've had this MacBook since May, and the only time I unplug my MacBook from the Magsafe is maybe a few hours a week. My Magsafe has yet to have any issues.

With that said, its not impossible that you may get a bad MagSafe. This isn't bogus, this has happened before and has been reported. However, if it does happen to you, contact Apple and they will take care of it.

    3. You might want to note the "July 2006" part of it. Apple has already introduced new MBPs since July 2006, and I have yet to hear any Santa Rosa MacBook Pro owner complain about CPU whine.

No to all of them. I had a MBP without Santa Rosa that I purchased last January or February and then as soon as the Santa Rosa came out, I purchased a new one.

Heat was an issue, but they came out with an update that did a better job of regulating the fan to eliminate the heat. No issues since then.

It does run warmer when running Vista in Parallels, but with XP, not an issue.

I've had mine since July 9th.

Just a note in case anyone's interested in knowing why the original poster is banned: this user is a secondary (probably 10th account by now, at least) account for a user who was notorious for causing problems at NBR.
