    BTW, are there any major negative effects from running the fans at 6000 rpm all the time (on AC power)?

    How much would the extra wear affect the fans?

    I don't see it as being a big issue, many PC laptops have options in the BIOS to "always run fans on AC".

    Consider getting a cooler pad instead though, way cheaper to replace/fix if the fans die.
