I have a friend with an FTP site, and I want to upload some files to it. Is there some opensource application I can use to connect and upload? Can Mac OS do this already?

It's a long time since I uploaded to an FTP so I am a bit shaky on all this :)

    Thanks

Among the most recommended FTP client for OS X is Cyberduck. Check that out :).

The FTP server must be configured so that you have permissions to modify the directory. If it is, you should be able to connect and upload without installing any third-party software. In Finder, just select Go --> Connect to Server. Then enter the FTP address (for example, ftp://Username:[email protected]). You don't have to enter the username and password this way, you can just type ftp://Address.Domain. Once you're connected, just copy files to the window (drag-and-drop, copy/paste, etc.).

Or you can install an application like Cyberduck to do the same thing as Sam mentioned.

finders ftp controls arent that great tho, they don't always work, and if it starts to crash, it will take down finder for a long time. i second cyberduck or if you want to pay for one, panics Transmit is pretty good as well.

Thanks guys. I definitely don't want to pay for one cos this will be more or less a one-off data transfer.

I don't think I will have permission to modify the directory because it is a government FTP (sending some files to a friend at work).... I will check out cyberduck and shout if (when!) I get stuck :)

    thanks again, hooly.
