Well so far, I've been using the mouse gestures extension. The problem is that it can't recognize the difference between highlighting text and a gesture to go back a page. This makes it a PITA when you just typed a nice long response to someone's post only for Firefox to mistake a simple gesture as go back a page and delete your response .

    Well get MultiClutch here

And follow the directions from this post @ MacRumours

The question is, is there a way to make it a 2-finger swipe in Safari? I never scroll left and right, so it would make a lot of sense if you could swipe quickly using two fingers to switch page. At least, it makes sense for those of us without newer MBPs! :D

just for all of your information, there is a 2 finger swipe in firefox and it works incredibly well, you just have to press and hold alt/opt and swipe left or right with two fingers to go forward or back, works extremely well.

i learned about this one on accident just recently.

Thanks for the interesting post, I was looking for this.

Does Safari offer any benefits over Firefox?

I just love the addons like Adblock plus in Firefox.

Yes, Safari is much smoother, because it uses some different GPU instructions to render pages. For example, load up www.engadget.com , and scroll down the page in both browsers. Safari is much, much easier on the eyes.
