The Notebook Review forums were hosted by TechTarget, who shut down them down on January 31, 2022. This static read-only archive was pulled by NBR forum users between January 20 and January 31, 2022, in an effort to make sure that the valuable technical information that had been posted on the forums is preserved. Why is there an extra enter key next to the spacebar? And don't say "for the same reason there are two Command and shift keys"... :p

so you don't have to move your hand while doing regular typing

the other one is so you don't have to move your hand while using the number pad.

i thought this was half obvious.

Hrm, in retrospect, I guess it is glaringly obvious. Ah well, I never use the laptop in numpad mode...maybe I should start heh.

I think it's for when you use the keyboard as a NumberPad it's easier to reach the enter key.

I don't think the enter key is that obvious. I'd do a lot better with some other key there, another control or alt. I think though that the codes for Enter (large key) and Enter (numpad) are different. So maybe OS X needs them both. I've never noticed a difference in Windows, but I've had Linux programs respond differently.
