HI i have a new MBP and I'm wondering if it is safe to engrave my name or something onto it. I'm thinking of doing it to the right of the touch pad. Anything I should be careful about?

I was thinking of VIN-etching mine, like you do car windows. You may be able to get the local police to do it, if they offer that service. They start by printing a label, that can be proofed so it's right. Then, they acid etch it, normally on glass. In theory, it should work on aluminum. Hmmm...

It's a very soft metal, so take it easy on the engraving. Make sure you cover it well so no stray shavings get into your keyboard/speakers/ports etc. I don't think this case is very thick either so I hope you're not using a dremel

I'm sure there's an etch for aluminum like sulfuric acid, and I'm also sure it's rather caustic, and dangerous if you don't know what you're doing.

Ah, if I always knew what I was doing, I would not have had nearly as much fun doing it!

I don't even like the idea of putting stickers on my Apple. Don't do it!!! Especially not near the touch pad ;).

No, I would think it would be somewhere discreet, like the bottom of the case, away from the battery. Just large enough to read.
