    Eject .dmg?

    So I first got my macbook yesterday and Im still new to all of this. Anyway, I have installed some applications and they "extract" to this like volume on the desktop which I can eject? It says its a dmg file and Im not certain if the program is installed when its on the desktop like that and if why the reason for the eject when its just a program folder...please help

    the .dmg files are disk images. They show up on the desktop when they are mounted. You can use the finder to browse through them. Inside each, you'll find a program icon, drag this icon into your applications folder to install the program. After this is done you can "eject" or unmount the .dmg.

    some apps also have a file that goes on the desktop that you need to open to get the .dmg. you can delete that wen u get rid of the dmg
