The Notebook Review forums were hosted by TechTarget, who shut down them down on January 31, 2022. This static read-only archive was pulled by NBR forum users between January 20 and January 31, 2022, in an effort to make sure that the valuable technical information that had been posted on the forums is preserved. For current discussions, many NBR forum users moved over to NotebookTalk.net after the shutdown.

    On a new Macbook Pro, with no extra software installed (no Iworks, etc.), is there any text editor installed (like how Windows has notepad, wordpad, etc.)??

    Yes, it does, search in spotlight for "text edit". Its very similar to notepad!

    its much better than notepad... but its not a full fledged word processor. It will use multiple versions of .txt and .rtf as well as use MS Word .doc files.

    I use emacs or xemacs via MacPorts I think.

    been a vi fan/user since 1988... its great and comes with OS X it being unix and all. Is used from the command line.

    I think Apple and Windows should really get up to date. Include the word software on the computer out of the box. Kind of ridiculous that in this day and age, you have to BUY word processing software...
