I'm a PC guy who LOVES to format the system every 6 months or so just to get the "First day out of the box feel."

However, I've never done a clean install on a Mac. Is it different? What is the best way to go about it?

Just stick the Leopard DVD in, reboot your computer and hold down the Alt/Option key.

Boot from the DVD and just select "Clean Install". Leopard installer will wipe out everything and, well, do just that: a clean install

    :D

Its very simple, just enter the original installation disc into the MBP, let it load up, select "Erase and Install" and let it do its work. Usually it takes about an hour for me, and its all clean again!

Now do I have to log out of mac mail before I do that? I can't even figure out HOW to log out of mac mail in general

Nah, you don't have to log out of the Mail client.

Apple Mail is kinda different like that, so as when you're not online or don't have an internet connection, you're not logged in.

And when it senses internet, you're logged in.

It's really as seamless as you can get :D So you don't have to worry about stuff like that...

You really don't have to worry about anything with a Mac OS X reinstall. Nothing to worry about drivers, nothing to worry about graphics cards drivers and setting the right resolution and all that junk. Its just seamless!

Make sure you deactivate stuff such as an iTunes authorization if you currently have it before you reinstall!
